Hey all, I need some help here. I am trying to decide between an '06 Silver Sprint ST ABS or a '07 Black Sprint ST ABS. I have been reading the forums and any research or articles I can find, so I feel I know the pros and cons. But what a beautiful bike! I can hardly wait to get out on the road and GO! Anyhow, I like the lower handle bars and wind screen of the '06. Do you think it would be possible to put the '06 bars and lower screen on the '07? I feel that if I could do this I would go with the '07 simply because they have said they fixed some of the heat issues and have done some engine work for easier starting etc. So do I wait until January and get the '07 or do I go down to the dealer this weekend and pick up an '06? Decisions decisions! I hope to see you all out on the road soon! Thanks.

For me - the '06 is better. Despite being 6ft 1in, I like the stock screen and the seat. The bars are also good and I don't want them higher.

I wouldn't mind the upgraded fuel injection and slightly quicker starting - but not for $1,000 over an '06 plus any mods (if you prefer the '06 set-up).

The black is very nice, however.

Yes - you wil be able to put '06 bars etc on an '07 - and probably vice versa.

Don't forget - they'll have '08s soon and you can wait forever for the continual "improvements"!!

Take care - BB

I've always been a sucker for black bikes, so the '07 Phantom Black will probably look great. The new ergonomics of the '07's should be an improvement for those of us on the touring side. The only thing that concerns me is the new numbers for the torque rating. It seems that the max. torque develops higher up the rpm scale...I suppose because fo the new EFI.
I've been looking at the new Tiger in the latest issue of Torque. With the new style & the addition of usd forks, radial brakes, etc. I think this might be my next bike.
It's an age-related thing. The older I get the slower I go...sad isn't it? But, there's a lot to be said for comfort. This summer I made an extensive trip through Wyoming-Yellowstone-Montana & back. I met a pair of couples on their BMW ST's who convinced me that you enjoy the scenery more when your relaxed. I love my Sprint but I'm not using anywhere near all the bike has to offer. If only I'd had it 25 years ago...

FWIW.... I suggest checking with you dealer about the screen and higher 'bars on the '07... My dealer tells me they are ' options ' Not standard fitment.....

I have placed my order for a Black '07.... another addition to the garage!

If you're willing to wait, you might be able to get a deal on the '06 when the new models start to come in. On the other hand, there is the special financing and free luggage deal going on right now. Either way, you will probably end up spending less if you go with the '06. Cost of ownership is always one of the major determining factors for me.

I was feeling similarly a month or so ago when I bought my silver 06. The kicker was that the 07 will probably be minimally discounted, if any, and I got mine for 12K OTD with the 2.9% financing and the free bags. If you like the 06, I say get it.

I was in the same boat. I decided to go for the 06. 2 reasons... only color i like in the 07 range is the black. It looks sweet. In the 06 range there were two colors that really grabbed me (the silver and the sunset red). I ended up going sunset red. I was very disappointed when they dropped these two.
That being said.. ignoring color... the differences are really down to option extra's on each. The parts will be interchangeable. So if you want an 06 configured as an 07 with less sport emphasis and more touring you can. And if you want a more sporty 07 you can change the bars and put the lower fairing on... looking at the accessory site apparantly!
The only thing I believe the 07 has on the 06 that is tangible is the quicker starting kehin system. That being said... the injection setup in the 06 is incredibly smooth and it has an incredibly flat torque curve. Its also rediculously quick.. which i like. A gentlemans crotch rocket!
Whether the 07 changes the flat torque curve I am not sure... but looking at the figures it looks like the torque curve has been tweaked.. for good or bad I'm not sure.

I just have to say that this Forum thing ROCKS! Thank you all for your quick and very helpful notes and suggestions. I am going to go down this weekend and talk to my dealer. I need to see what deals he might have going. I will let you all know what I find out and please keep those replies coming. Right now I am leaning towards an '07 Black with '06 bars and screen.

John.
Of course the dealer could be full of hooey, but my dealer told me they will not be getting any non-ABS '07s until MAY of 2007. YIKES!!! That's forever if you're waiting for a new bike. So, I took the '06. Liked the Red, and the price was way right.

I'd also be very interested to hear what changes were made to help with the heat situation, if anyone knows.............
