Has anybody had a problem when your bike is hard to start, take it to the dealer and the dealer tells you your inlet valves are stuffed and will need replacing next time the shims need doing is this common or did I get a ***** set of valves

Could be that your inlet valve clearances closed up too much and burnt the valve seats, Sprints of this vintage are well known to have soft valve seats which need checking more often than the recommended 12,000 miles. Did your dealer say why you needed new valves, low compression? or is there no longer any scope for adjusting the clearances?

Thanks Steve The dealer checked the compression after cleaning the stepper motor failed to fix it, He found No1@40psi No2@180psi & No3@60psi That explains the hard start and rough idle until it gets to running temperature then runs great. The dealer fitted the smallest shims available therefor next time it will need new valves, funny thing it didn't need shimming at 20k (or did it )
