I decided to take the bike in this morning since the temps were higher than last week. Some fyi....2002 RS, 42k miles, took it riding this Sunday with no problems.

I get on the on-ramp, rev through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd...maybe 4th too? I rev'ed 1st and 2nd pretty high. I'm going through a tunnel, shift and then notice a red light come on and no power. So it stalls on me going 50 - 60mph in a tunnel. I didn't restart it, but coasted off to the side once I was out of the tunnel.

I start her up, idle's fine....then rev her up and she instantly dies. Try again and same result. Luckly I'm 3min from home and go back. Before I park I try again, this time it dies only at higher rev's....8k (?)...around 11 or 12 o'clock (I forget the rpm's :hammer: ).

Is there anything obvious that I should look for? This is the first time this has happened since I got her a few months ago.

And to top it off I was behind a biker on the way to work and got a nice stone thrown at my window :-D

I know of another bike that did this and it turned out to be a faulty oil pressure sensor. Might not be your cause, but the best bet would be to get someone with a tuneboy to do a diagnostic for you.

BTW, you do not need an unlock code to do diagnostics, any working tuneboy can diagnose any bike.

write down some more facts: did you key off then on to re-start, or just re-fire the starter? Might be a fuel pump relay issue if that's the case.
are you getting the MIL light, or the oil pressure light when it dies?

I will have to look around locally for a TuneBoy....the previous owner may have one.

But no, I don't believe I restarted the ignition after I pulled over. By MIL I assume you mean the orange Check Engine light? Only light was lit was red.

Did you check your oil?

Yup, oil (M1) seems fine.

I came home today, warmed up the bike and started cranking the throttle. I got it to stall once in the 7-8k range. Other times, it came back to an unusually lower idle....maybe 700'ish but wouldn't stall.

I then went on a ride and rev'ed it up. No issues.....came home, hit the throttle again, nothing....came back to normal idle at a bit over 1,000.

I don't kow if it's a gremlin or what. But the previous owner offered to hook it up to his TuneBoy. He's going to try to get the guy he sold the cable to sell it to me.

He (previous owner) also mentioed the TPS.....how faulty have these been?

Well it happened again this morning It seems to be related to shifting (maybe clutch?) rather than rpm's.

I started getting on the onramp again, and as soon as I shifted into 2nd, it stalled. Didn't even have time to let the clutch out.

I think I really need that tune boy....

When it stalls open your fuel tank lid.It maybe your breather hose blocked, building up a vacum in the tank not allowing fuel through. Its quite common on the Hinkley twins.

Man if you're right I might owe you a bottle of Bundy* :chug:

I've never taken the right fairings off.....but I did see two hoses running down below the tank. I followed them down and they stopped, pushing against the frame right above the centerstand bolts up (there's sort of a pocket there).

I yanked them down from behind the frame. On the oil pan it seems like there was a metal bracket that was meant exactly for these two hoses.

I will find out tommorow :-D

*Next time I'm in Aus

I got hooked on it because of Aussie buddy in high school. They would only bring about 2 bottles each because of customs....I have about 1L or so sitting in my bedroom, right next to the Havanna Club :-D

But you know what.....I think you were right on the money. I went to work Friday and the bike felt great, almost better than before.

I'm heading out right now to my buddies for a quick ride.....and maybe pick up a TuneBoy along the way.

Thanks!!!!
