I have the jacket liner and I am considering the pants liner as well. All this in addition to my heated grips? Can a stock Sprint electrical system handle it all

I use the jacket liner and gloves with no problem. I don't think that adding the pants would be a problem. Keep in mind that the system won't keep up below about 3000 rpms. A friend has added a switch (on his Tiger) to shut off one of the headlights when he's riding 2 up with heated gear.

I just scored a slightly used Gerbings heated jacket liner with the accessory plug ins. So my bike has to be started up and at speed to start making the liner work? I just went ahead and plugged it in while in my garage and it didn't seem to be heating up. Maybe I should have given it more time?

That jacket will warm up even on battery with engine off. It just doesn't feel like its getting warm, for a while anyway. But when its really cold the jacket makes a world of difference!

I've had a few BMW's with heavier charging systems (800 Watts). Now on my '03 ST I need to watch the system a little more closely, as I run driving light to be seen better. Accordingly I've added a little digital voltmeter to watch the charging and battery condition. I mounted it with dual-lock on the front of the fork riser, just in front of the speedo. Give me date, I need data!

(www.digitalmeter.com) - about $40, fully encapsulated.

Once the colder weather comes and I use my Gerbing jacket and heated gloves I may be switching them off when I get to stop-and-go traffic.

The jacket should warm up just off the battery but will take longer. Most "modern" day bikes, with the exclusion of cruisers which rev appreciable lower, don't have much alt. output until above 3000rpms.

I rode to work this AM and decided to put the liner on under my Joe Rocket jacket but over a dress shirt for work. I left for work it was in the low 40's. I didn't think I'd be as impressed with the liner as I was.

I have heated grips and have yet to feel like they do much more than take the chill off. I do wear thick gloves so that may be part of it. On the other hand. 20 minutes from home I was trying to turn the liner down as it was getting very very warm inside even though I knew it was still kind of chilly.

Now if the parts are that good, I won't be winterizing the bike all I need is a suny dry day with no snow on the rounds and I'll be a year round rider even in New England

I am a puss I run the heated gloves because they heat the top side of my hand and heated sock, again because I am a puss. Never had a problem with the battery or charging system. Advice.........if you don't have battery tender get one.

RickyT:

When I first got the heated jacket I expected it to "feel" warm. That's not the point, IMO, it just keeps you from getting cold. And I've used mine in the teens. Now you need to watch the road surface more closely (without the Gerbing you'd just stay home).
