Going to Great Bay in New Hampshire tomorrow to get my new Caspian Blue Sprint ST...I'll ride it home to the Adirondacks.. been reading all the engine 'breaking in posts' and think I understand my 'mission' (heh-heh).

I've been a 'voyeur' on the site for awhile trying to learn what I can and appreciate the input received from you guys along the way.

David

Well, enjoy the pick-up and the ride home. Congrats. The advice I got for break-in was up to one third throttle for the 1st 100 miles, up to half throttle for the next 300 miles. I was told to be much less concerned with the absolute rpm. No problems so far and she feels very, very strong indeed.

I'd be interested if you find the heat that she puts out on the first day diminishes over time - the first day I had mine I was wondering what I had done!! But it is barely noticeable now - and I hate being hot!!

Take care, enjoy, report back - BB

Good luck, it's a great ride! I broke mine in by the book (there will be a sticker on the trunk that tells you the Max RPM) because this was my first new bike. Enjoy!

Congrats on your new bike, blue is the best color. You will love the new ride, and it only gets better w/ time. Mine has 10,000 miles and it seems to run better every time I ride it.
It really does get a lot smoother shifting around 3000 - 6000 miles.

Also, don't let some of the negative posting detract from the experience of the bike. All bikes, this one included will have a few problems, but the good far outweighs the bad. It really is a great bike. You can also learn a lot from this site as these guys really provide a lot of good info. Enjoy your new bike and ride safe.

DHarvey,
congrats and welcome to the TriumphRat.net

I note you have chosen the best colour but then I would expect that from a David :-D

Enjoy your new Triumph triple and stay upright.

Thanks to all for your welcomes...I rode 'BlueBalls" back through 4 hours of driving rain today..was very careful to stay under 3,500 rpm for the first 100 miles and now under 5,000 until I reach 300 miles and so forth.. was delighted by the way to see a top sped of 92.7 registered in 6th just before I shut it down from 5,000 rpm...

In response to DaveM who writes" note you have chosen the best colour but then I would expect that from a David "

I soitently don't want to start a riot or anything but of course within the Rocket Captain community (yeah. that's whats we callz ourselves) it is a well known scientific fact that Red Rockets are the fastest..(I won't bore with you with all the scientific data..has something to do with warp speed, the natural light spectrum..atomic particles and other egghead type knowledge none of which I pretend to understand..trust me..its so).. but I knew right away when I saw the caspian Blue that for Sprints its gotta be Blue is fastest..(for god sakes stop throwin stuff at me..I'm a newbie here..whatdoIknow, huh?)??

No really, its a beautiful bike but I am looking forward to really seeing what it can do. I live here in the land of twisties but I want to get through the first major oil change service and do everything per the book.
:-D

Leo’s learn in cop school to first go after red bikes, next yellow, and then blue. And leave the silver ones alone since this conservative "colour" (for my Aussie friends) reflects the nature of the rider who would never break any laws and is probably on his way to church.
