but the size of the fight in the dog.

I am amazed by the guys who have to buy the biggest and the fastest coz it makes the Valentino Rossi or something. Well check this out...

This months 'Ride' magazine pitched a Honda CBR125R (13bhp 115kg) against Honda CBR600RR (115bhp 163kg) arounf Donington race circuit. The 125 was ridden by GP god Rocket Ron Haslam who teaches at Donington. The 600 was ridden by an average road rider who has done 3 track days but vast experience.

The 125 lap time... 2m30.1s

The 600 lap time... 2m26.6s

I can't beleive they were so close!

.. its true.I did a track day a couple of years ago on my Suzuki 1200.
I got passed by a little guy on a 125 2 stroke racing bike through the esses - as I expected.
I lined him up on the back straight and thought I'd give him a lesson in sheer grunt :-D
I couldnt catch him and never saw him again :???:
It taught me a lesson about how a good rider can make an average bike look very good.He was a much better rider than me.
I had a lot of fun all the same.

one of the lads showed up on our local track on a bros 400. He wiped the floor with some of the guys there on zx6r's! Was hillarious to see him over take them!

A bike is only as good as the rider on it.

You got it. I was offered a go on a race preped SV650S used in the minitwins series during a trackday I had organised with www.sv650.org

I was ashamed that James Holland kicked my ass on my ow standard SV whilst I pottered around on his race bike! :???:

I was embarrassed the same way Me on my tricked out Guzzi Lemans and some guy on a 50 year old Matchless made me look inept. It's all about carrying speed through the corners. Watched the 125 GP races today and I don't think those guys even slow down for corners. :???:

Well, i think this is all pretty skewed. Here you have a guy who trains at the track vs. someone who might have been on this course 3 days over a long period of time. That's a huge advantage right there.

Then you put this guy on a bike that has already been set up for the track from countless laps of training. The other guy? Well, let him sort it out as best he can before the day is up.

Lastly, i'm guessing Donington is a fairly twisty track. This never lets the 600RR take advantage of it's higher top speed.

Take the pro and his bike to a new track, and i'd expect much different results.

Now, i'm not saying that the rider isn't a significant part of the equation. I'm saying the equation was significantly skewed to favor the pro from the get go.

Yes Donington is a twisty circuit but the torque and the power of the IL4 should murder the 125 single.

The 125 was out of the crate and has NO SUSPENSION ADJUSTMENT so was not set up for the track.

Donington is a fast circuit.

The Motogp boys aren't any faster and most are slower than the British Superbike series guys at Donington.
It aint what you've got - its what you do with it!

Yes, it's always the fight in the dog. Sort of like the late Cal Rayborn making up in ability what the Harley he rode lacked in power. Seems like I remember him beating everyone at a series in England once.
