I take your point. I agree. The only thing I would say is that the current sprint st could easily have the badge of daytona 1050. It sure looks like it is a litre super sports... its has the motor, the riding position isn't quite as focussed but is a hybrid which is what its target audience wants. A sports bike you can ride for a few hours without buckling your back and wrists. I would have said its perfect and journalists would appear to also agree. Its sales and the waiting list triumph have at the moment for it suggest they have a winning formula and not something to mess with.
It is also possible that they will go the BMW route with the F800s and F800st. Same motor and seat but the handle bars differentiating one as sport touring and the other as sport bike. Maybe the 05/06 Sprint St's will be the daytona and the 07's will be the true st ?!?!
Either way lower bars (as 05/06) and sports screen will likely be available as options so if you want a sports touring bike with emphasis on sport you still can with 07.
Looking at what Honda is doing with the vfr, it looks like the market leader (interms of volume sales) is putting emphasis back on the sport side of sport touring with their new colors etc... for 07.
That said... i spoke to my triumph dealer today who was very confident that triumph are only offering different colours and a higher screen stock and maybe panniers as standard. They still haven't changed their info page on the sprint.. so perhaps autonews is as reliable as MCN

The new Tiger just makes me seriously question them giving higher and further back bars. A mate of mine bought a new hayabusa and the dealer threw in a free set of panniers and a double bubble. Yup.... its more sport tourer now!
