I have decided to buy a bike again. The last one I had was 4 years ago and it was a 1994 Yahama YZF 600 R. I have two bikes I am looking at. Help me choose which is a better deal..

Bike 1: 2002 Sprint RS 7,000 miles.. $4,500

Bike 2: 2000 Sprint ST 30,000 $4,000

Let me know.. How is the quality..

Based purely on that information, the RS seems like the better deal. $500 for 23,000 less miles

However if you wanted factory hardbags or other ST specific items that would make the RS less appealing.

Do you have the history of the bikes?? Are they both in good shape??

Oh here is more info. the St does come with the hard luggage. But the RS comes with LED blinkers, upgraded front brake, gas tank protector. This was his last e-mail about the RS

The current rubber is Metzeler ME-Z4. The mileage as of this moment is 11,798. The tires were replaced at 7,174. I'd expect maybe another 1500-2000 miles out of them. The last oil change with Gen-u-ine Triumph Mobil1 ($48 a jug) was at 11,520 on March 6. I replaced the plugs and installed the K&N air filter at 10.9K. The fuel filter was replaced about 8.5K.

The RS at ~12k miles is due for a service. Most of which you can do by yourself (fluids and basic checks). The 12k checkup calls for a valve check. Dealer will charge you some cash for that one.

They are very similar bikes. I'd go for newer and lower mileage. That being said, I have a 2000 ST that now has 15k miles and shows no signs of wear. Rides like new. I bought it a little over a year ago with 4500 miles on it for $4800.
I ride this one pretty hard on the sport side of sport touring.
I did add stiffer progressive springs and lowered the front to get a bit more responsiveness. It has the factory racing can and 18t sprocket. It is a great bike for longer rides. If I was more into shorter distance fast sport riding I would probably trade it in on something else. But for the money I dont know what you could get that would be better. Good luck

It's due for service even after he replaced Gen-u-ine Triumph Mobil1 ($48 a jug) was at 11,520, and he got new plugs and a filter. How many miles do bikes need to be "serviced?"

So you'd go with the RS? I think that's the way I am leaning

The factory manual calls for a major service every 12000 miles, cheap insurance really! It`s a pain to buy and need a service right away, but at least you`ll have the piece of mind knowing that everything has been checked out and put back to spec.

So do most of you agree I should go with the RS?

How many miles are these engines good for? I have a buddy St with 30,000 and say's it's just "broke" in. So how many are the sprint engines good for?

And one more question. Since they quit making the RS will parts be hard to come by at all in the near fuure?

Get the '02 RS, bought an '01 RS three months ago and its a great bike. It had 7K miles when I bought her, now its got 8500! Also, if its Black, its a much faster bike (lol). Having much more fun on it than I did any of my cruisers.

If the RS has the new improved motor definitely (But I am a bit biased) if not .. get the RS.

Heaps of fun for your bucks

If you prefer more touring style, extra protection with the fairing and the gadgets get the ST. More sporty... the RS, but the ST can be sporty too.

But yellow is the faster - sorry DrHouse
