Hi all,

Just traded for an '05 Blue Sprint ST - 5000 miles, everything appears to be 100%.

So far, I'm in love w/ the Triumph and it's performance - I do have a few questions:

1. The brakes on this bike work great - they haul the bike down from 100-120 w/ no problem and the lever response feels normal. After reading numerous threads about front brake problems, are there any potential problems I should be looking for ???

2. Same thing regarding heat coming from the motor - it's noticeable but not serious. Have many of you added the foam pieces or do most have no issue w/ excessive heat???

3. How many owners do the 6000 mi service themselves, is it more common to have the dealer do this (I have worked on my own bikes for many years) ???

Thanks in advance for any advice on the above,

EE

EE, welcome to the club. Keep an eye out for a build up of road crud on the caliper pistons. I put some insulation foam under the seat which seems to have stopped any heat coming through the seat.

I also fitted risers, I can recommend Gen Mars which worked a treat, and heat grips help keep the winter blues away. Also a Triumph sports exhaust made a world of difference as does a K&N air filter or so I'm told.

Buy a good toque wrench and a workshop manual and every once in a while check all your bolts and nuts for tensions.

As for doing you own service, thats up to you and if you feel confident about doing it have ago. I change my own plugs, filters, and oil.

There is a ton of other stuff you can fit to the Sprint, and remember that although the Triumph panniers look great they will not take a full face helmet and the Trumpy top box will not take two helmets. I solved this problem by fitting a Givi top box.

All in all the bike is great, it goes like "***** off a shovel", handles brilliantly, and has a ton of mid range grunt.

Enjoy your Sprint, and safe riding

The Tankman

Tankman,

"Keep an eye out for a build up of road crud on the caliper pistons"

Whats the best way to clean the crud - compressed air to (carefully) blow it away, spray solvent like Brakekleen, regular soap and water when washing ???

Let me know on the above and thanks for all the tips,

EE

Mate, I picked up a tip from a tread on this forum. I take off the calipers, pump out the pistons a bit and clean them with a citrus degrease, this works well, and also while the bike is in the shed leave the front brake pulled on.

Hope this helps,
cya The Tankman
