I'm wondering if one of the new Micron moto gp style cans would work on my '01 ST. I'm guessing that any can that's sized for a 900-1000cc bike would work if I could connect it. I know of a guy who put an underseat exhaust from a CBR1000RR on a speed triple...only problem there was tire clearance. One of the new cans from Micron would look great on a Sprint. Any ideas?

Hi Mouse,
I don't know the answer but I thought my post would punch you back to the top of the page maybe someone else can help you.

Flatspins in the Daytona forum has a nice underseat job on his and I think it was a USA brand he is a fellow countryman of yours. Check out his album and PM him maybe?

Good luck.

The can will work fine. As you said, you'll have to provide a mid pipe to connect it, as well as fabricate a bracket, both easily accomplished. There are a great many companies which sell prebent exhaust tubing, you just need to cut, fit, and weld it up. I prefer .049 wall stainless steel, once polished, looks just like chrome. I fitted a universal Kerker can to my '01, mounted it high, just clearing the rear passenger peg mount, looks great, sounds really good.

Good luck.

I just got my hands on a kerker with connector pipe from what bike i don't know
I noticed the the header on my RS 01 is really small in diameter and the Kerker is 2.5" diameter.
Would it be ok to cut off the end piece of the header which is smaller than the rest of the header?
I'm wondering if one of all the muffler shops for cars could do this?
The Kerker can is really short and not very big in diameter.
I think it would look nice on the bike with a simular style as the newer pipes coming out on the market.
Comments suggestions?

I dont know what the RS has for a header set up, the ST has an 1 3/4" diameter. Id fabricate a connector before I'd cut off stock bits to fit a can made for another bike. Before I did anything, I'd check the fit of this can and see how and where its going to fitup, if the mid pipe is from another bike, most likely it will end up a ways away from the bike or upside down if you try to bring it close enough to mount. You can always cut off part of the existing mid pipe and make it suit your install. What material is it made from?

Most muffler shops in my area will fabricate custom exhausts if you leave the bike, and all will require varying degrees of finish work to obtain something that dosent look like "Fido's butt", after all these guys build exhausts for street cars, not 150k custom hot rods. I'd do some serious research before I let just any shop fabricate bits for my ride, their interpratation of what you want vs what you need may be worlds apart. Nobody likes to go to the shop to pick up their ride and at first glance give the fabricator the "*** is that" look. Id also verify fabrication techniques, can they do stainless steel, is it MIG or TIG welded, can they do bends, whos supplying the clamps, what style of clamps, etc.

Good luck.
