Sounds like a loose wiring or something totally belly-up.

Check battery contacts, check plugs ECU end, check that all connectors are good connected and that the metal is not corroded

Bike still runs fine right?

Yes, bike runs great. Every so often the tach and speedometer jump around. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Chemprof,
Check the dash wiring. It sounds like a the power or ground source for the dash is loose, or there is a broken wire bouncing around and touching things it shouldn't.

You got it! Found loose connections under the cockpit. While moving the wires around even the temp gauge responded. Using the service manual I'll remove the fairings and cokpit fairing and attack the problem. Thanks for the help.
