Ok...I got the 18t front sprocket,for my 05 Sprint ST. Now, what size is that nut that holds the sprocket on the shaft? I don't have a socket that big! Also, is that nut a left hand thread? Or do I use a BIG adjustable wrench and hope I don't round the shoulders of the nut. Hope y'all can help.

If there is not too much change form the 04, there is a washer that is folded in order to prevent the bolt from coming out. You will probably need the right socket as I do not think that you would be able to fit that wrench in there. Beside, I am not sure it is a good idea to put that wrench on a bike. Better keep it for plumbing.

The nut is 36mm on my 05. I bought one for under $10 at Sears. It will be a lot easier if you borrow an electric impact wrench.

No, do not use an adjustable wrench. You are just asking for trouble if you do that! I also believe there is a fair amount of torque that should be applied to the nut.

I replaced my 19t on my '01 ST with the 18t and have been very happy with it. It makes my daily commute in fairly heavy to mild traffic easier.

Once you have the correct size socket and an appropriate breaker bar, bend out the lock washer, and while keeping the bike in gear, have someone step on the rear brake while you loosen the nut. Having someone on the brake makes for a much easier job of loosening the nut.

I have an 05 model, that will need a chain and sprocket in the near future, interested in the 18 tooth front, be told the Daytona has a 18 tooth front.

Got a quote on after market sprockets, my question is do front sprocket need to be rubber backed, to help with vibration.

Have heard some bad reports on after market sprockets.

Playinthestreet are you sure the front sprocket is left hand thread, because the front sprocket has a lock tab, and no other bike I have had was left handed on the front sprocket.

Be told the 18 front helps with torque, and riding in buildup areas.

I don't think you need the rubber cush type. I don't think mine is then again I'm not a technical genius either

It is true however that it is the cheapest performance boost you will give your bike.

I put it off for ages until Don talked me into it. And he was right. It just gives so much more drive out of corners and really gets the power down to the road well.

It also aids low speed handling and standing starts.

I bought a JT sprocket...it was around $22.00 USD. I still have not changed it yet. Trying to round up an impact wench...still have yet to get the 36mm socket.
