Hello all,
new member and just bought my first Triumph (have had BM's for years). Its an 06 Sprint ST with 2500 miles up. When the engine is warm there is a constant popping/rumbling/spitting from the exhaust on the overun. Is this normal ??? It sounds fantastic but I don't want to damage anything. Any ideas anyone. Thanks. null

ewan, it's normal and yes a lot of us love it too.

It's an aural part of the character of the Trumpy triple coming out for the all to hear :-)

Welcome to the world of Trumps and the list.

Enjoy the ride
Russ
btw what colour did you get?

My '06 with the TOR does the same thing. Ive heard two schools of thought: depending on the tune installed, it may or may not pop.

It seems to depend on the dealer and which tune they end up using, is about all I can determine.

In fact, my buddy Pete, who was concerned about the difference between the demo SP3 from my dealer and his SP3 posted the following:

BACKFIRE: The Final Showdown

Consensus? Correct tune should not cause backfiring. oh well, it dos sound sweet. :hammer:

I have the TORS tune and a Staintune can with a removable baffle. I get popping with the baffle removed but it`s fine with the baffle in place. The bike is also MUCH faster with the baffle removed and popping happening.

My 06 Sprint pops nicely and even more when she's hot. In fact, my 05 Tiger pops also, both have stock pipes.
For a short period though, the Tiger stopped poppin'...that was right after it's 12000 mile service...poor thing...the dealer knocked out the #3 cylinder throttle body adjustment (quite a bit too), and the bike accelerated even when I was backing off on the throttle. I had to beg them to re-do the throttle body adjustment...but they told me it did not need it...they were very wrong! Arrrrgh!! I don't go there anymore. Sorry guys (Ledgewood NJ) You let me down!!
Because of that, I purchased my beloved Sprint elsewhere. Gotta listen to the customer!!!!
Keep on poppin'! It may alert the driver behind you before you hit the brake light.
Steve

ewan,
welcome aboard.

I have had the triumph CF can and currently run with the Triumph SS race can and lastest T off road tune.

It snaps crackles and pops on the over run and the guys I ride with tell me that when I am going hard and down changing at high rpms before tipping it in hard I get the occasional flame from the pipe as well.

It's all good mate. :-D
