Modifying '01 Sprint windshield

Anyone ever modify the underside of the windshield supports to allow for highter bars? I've stacked Heli bars on top of GenMar risers to get maximum height and now it's very comfortable but also bumps against the windshield support. Any ideas? Wader

I've got an '01 as well and ended up putting ConvertiBars on. I brought them up to the absolute highest setting to brush the windscreen on each side at the stops. I've still got another inch (up) left of adjustment but I didn't want to grind the underside of the windscreen down an inch and permanently alter the bike. I worry also about the diminished strength of the screen supports if you take half of the "meat" away.

I think you're right about weakening the windshield support. It would probably take a complete rebuild by a good body man. Maybe I'll get used to being more leaned-over than I"m used to.

I've been working my saddle time up. I can now make it through a whole tank of gas before needing to get off and walk around. Can't quite make it through a second tank full in one day without some decent resting time in between.
