Just fired my '99 ST up after 2 weeks of no riding. Immediately noticed that the Engine Management Malfunction Indicator light stayed on after the start. Pre-start I checked the oil level and coolant and they were fine. rode the bike for 5 miles to be sure it wasn't the battery needing a charge. Light is still on, bike seems to be running fine. I did notice, however, that the odometer ticked over 24,000 miles exactly when I wheeled it out of the garage to start it up. Anyone have an idea of what the issue may be? Thanks in advance for any help.

The computer will usually reset that light after the bike has been started/run thru several heat cycles. Mine would do that if the battery got low and/or I removed the battery for some reason. Ride it a couple of days before you assume anything worse.

Hi,

Plaayinthestreet's right. It should go out after three complete heat cycles. Start from cold, run to normal, cool down to cold.... 3 times and it should go out. If it hasn't then start thinking about a trip to the dealer.

Thanks for the info! Actually off to dealer in a couple hours anyway for fuel sender replacement and recalls. They agreed to hook it up to the computer and be sure nothing is wrong for free. Again, Thank YOU!
