It appears from a recent thread that I and many others have had our rubber battery straps deteriorate prematurely (i.e. dry rotted to the point of breaking/falling off on '05-'06 models).

Well, this weekend I had the fairing off to install a set of R&G sliders and I got a similar surprise. Under the right fairing near the frame is a row of relays, each secured in place by a rubber sleeve. Sure enough, each one of the rubber sleeves is deteriorated just like the battery strap. A couple of them only has 1/8" or so of rubber still holding the sleeve together! I figure it wont be long until I have a few of the sleeve fall apart completely which will leave the relays to fall between the engine and fairing to rattle around and in the airstream.

I'll add it to my growing list of items for the 6K mile service in a couple weeks.

Makes you wonder what kind of rubber they're using? Maybe they got a batch of old rubber or something? Rubber should last longer than a year, maybe the heat from the engine and undertail exhaust has somthing to do with it?(the battery strap rotting)

I'm sure glad Triumph does not sell condoms!

I guess this could be their logo if they did... :razz:
