I searched the forum for this answer but could not come up with anything.

Does anyone have the factory optional alarm ?

How do you like it ?

How does it work ?

Would you recommend it ?

Thanks

jr.

I've had the factory alarm on from new.

Yes I like it and I still have the bike, so that says something, although I'm not sure whether it's the alarm or the Rotweiller I have chained to it :-D

It's a two button fob; round button and oval button. The system is default set to auto arm after 30 seconds. To manually arm it, press round button until 2 beeps and red light in small headlight starts to flash. I think there is a delay between alarm arm and motion sensor arming that may be showed by how the red light flashes.

To disable the motion sensor but leave the seat switch and immobiliser armed (useful fuelling, or in high winds etc) press and hold oval button (after the alarm is armed normally) until a long beeeeeep. To reactive motion sensor disarm the whole system by pressing round button and hearing one beep, and rearm as above.

You can put it in valet mode by having the ignition on and pressing the arm button 3 times (single beep for each press) then turn off the ignition. You'll get a muted beep every 15 seconds or so. Very annoying, especially for the neighbours on a Sunday morning, washing the bike :-)

You can also get hazzard (all indicators flash) lights, but I am never quite sure how you get it. I think that as you are hearing the two beeps for arming, you press the oval, or is it that you press the oval and round simultaneously to arm, giving you hazzard lights?

My alarm did totally fail after about 15 months, and left the bike unable to start, and stuck in the work Motorcycle shed. When I got it transported to the dealers by my breakdown cover (20 miles with the alarm going continuously - fun!) I was told that Triumph accessories only have a 1 year warranty, however, datatool (who make the alarm) have a 2 year one, and they honoured it. So I now have a second alarm.

Downsides. The motion sensor is very sensitive at times, in that putting something down on the rack can set it off, but I can also remove the rain cover from the bike without setting it off. The little reed switch that senses the seat being removed is stuck on with a double sided foam pad that is starting to fail so I will have to replace that, but that is small beer.

You can get the alarm to tell you if the bike has been interfered with while you were away (shown by the flashing red led in the small headlight being permenantly on) but I can't remember what all the beep codes mean.

In summary  It's a good alarm and is recognised by most insurers, but it is not going to prevent, only deter.

But if you think of it as about £300 (I think it was around that after haggling!) it has saved me about £200 per year on insurance, so it has paid for itself that way alone!

I Hope this rambling helps. My 2p worth is to get it

Hi num1husker,

I also have had the Triumph alarm which is actually a Data Tool alarm, mine is the system 3 or S3.

I am very happy with it.

If you want to read more about it clicky below:

num1husker,
you can also adjust the sensitivity of the motion sensor by where you position it. The motion sensor can also be disengaged by the push of the oval or triangle button once and reset by pushing the same button once.

So if you want to clean the bike or wheel it around you can do so by having the system still armed but disabling the motion sensor.

Hey all. A little food for thought. I purchased the top of the line Scorpio alarm. Excellent system! I got all the bells/whistles you named, remote ignition disabler/anti-hijack and battery backup system with remote keyfob that displays exactly what alarm triggered. The perimeter sensor is adjustable for sensitivity. Front turn signals flash also. With the ignition disabler, even if you have the key to the bike, you cannot start it unless you disable the alarm! The antihijack works by shutting down bike if someone takes it while its running. Battery backup keeps alarm active even if battery connection is cut. Of course it also has tilt/shock sensors too. I got the factory wire harness kit, and install was a snap. Needed to cut one wire for the ignition disabler was all (I can help anybody with that if you need advice). Hardest part was deciding where I wanted to put the components! Only drawback, it does not illuminate the 'factory' alarm light, but my perimeter sensor sounds warning chirps (without full alarm) if someone gets too close anyways. Got my full setup for just less than $400 US shopping online. Guy named 'Harley' at Scorpio alarm is excellent and helped me with all info i needed for install. Someone tried lifting my cover one day, and stopped as soon as perimeter went off--so, glad I got it!

Another option. Talon T-2200 or T-2200i. Equiped with the factory harness, no cutting of any wires is required to take advantage of the immobiliser or the Triumph alarm LED. This makes for a very easy installation. Its just one connector!

I've got the factory fitted Datatool and my bikes just been in getting it repaired after a whole 1000km from new. Apparently the alarm fuse blew, leaving the bike immobilised and the alarm going off. Nice. The dealer said the fuse box had a 10amp fuse listed but the workshop manual 15amp, so they've put a 15 in and I pick up the bike Monday.
I put it down to***** happens, but if history repeats I won't be happy.

I bought this same alarm and it arrived today. I can't figure out the best place to mount the alarm brain. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I bought the Gorilla from the same people who make the Scorpion I think...not a bad alarm, easy to instal under the seat...if nothing else it gives me more peace of mind than a deterent. That with a good bike chain and lock keeps me feeling better.
Cheers.
