Thats not a typo.

I've just seen this invention on telly.

"by Owen Hutchison
The CLAKE combines the functions of the clutch and the rear brake of a motorcycle or an ATV to a single hand operated lever."

It has two reservoirs on the clutch lever. Pull it in part way and it operates the clutch, pull it further and the rear brake is applied as well. It also has a second "over ride" lever to operate the clutch only.

The idea is to allow you use your right foot for stability in a right hand corner on a trail bike and also allow use of the rear brake in situations where both are required.

On a road bike, it will allow you to weight the right foot peg and use the rear brake via the "clake" device leaving your right foot to do one job instead of two.

This link shows a pic.

I'm not to sure if this device will really take off. :???:

Yeah, caught the end of that segment.

Interesting idea, but how conservative are makers and riders?

I reckon this is an invention for which there is no real need.

If you are unable to use your right foot on the brake, then yes but otherwise I'm not really sold on the idea.

I watched it last night on 'The New Inventors.' My wife and I both ride, I have done a fair bit of dirt bike riding and we both thought it was going to come last, although it must be said, none of the judges seemed to know anything about motorcycles. I think it`s completely unnecessary and would be difficult to learn to use correctly. There`s also the potential to accidentally apply the back brake during gear changes.

I think it`s a Turkey!

Hi Welshrob,
I thought the same at first and then thought, well a thumbbrake really worked for Doohan, if in sand/mud rh corners you wanted to get your foot down it could be useful.

Obviously it would take some time to learn to use properly.

The big thing against it ~ AUS$1300. That is way too much. It should be $6-700. Even in relatively handmade amounts $300-400 for the cylinder, levers & hoses, $200-300 for fitting. Double that seems completely ridiculous. Woudl I buy one? Nope I don't do riding where I need to get a foot off the pegs :-) So I guess it's always going to be a specialist device. Clever idea though!
