You must be highly intelligent...you left Iowa.
Come back and count the riders you see with and without helmets. If Im so dumb, I'd say the majority of riders in this state are too and Id be willing to guess the majority are Iowa natives. I know its not the safest thing, but Im not alone. If you wear a helmet in Iowa you are the exception. And I suppose if all the Iowans were jumping off bridges Id do that too just to be as cool as them. :-D

Putnam, Take up skydiving so you can feel the wind on your dial. And put a good quality lid on.
You don't really ride around without a helmet because it's not a legal requirement and therefore Cool, do you?
Sounds to me like you're doing it because you follow the rest of the herd ( baah.........baah ). Take another look at your previous post as justification for this act.
BASE jumping could be something you might like to try.
Combines the wind in the face with jumping off bridges. Problem is, it's not legal I suppose. But it's COOL.
Ride safe while you still can.

I actually do wear my helmet some of the time. I have a good HJC. Wearing one in town while riding with the boys is kind of difficult. You cant talk to each other. I think anyone who lived in a no helmet laws state would find themselves riding without one from time to time. You are a product of your own microcosm, ya know.

I think I understand why some people like to ride helmet-less - it freshens up the air in their heads.

To return to the original subject - I still have my stock screen and have no intention of changing it. I like having the wind to lean on at speed and I find it much less tiring to have my head in clean air rather than screen induced turbulence. I also prefer the standard bar position by far.

I've just got back from an 11 day, 4000 mile, tour of parts of the USA on a rented BMW R1150RT. My back is still stiff from the too upright position and my arms ache from the too high and close bars. After some initial playing with the electric screen I kept it fully down in all conditions but for the worst rain. It was noisier but the buffeting from turbulence with it up was unbearable. In rain I discovered a medium height that induced a vortex that swept the rain down from my visor - normally I just turn my head to either side occasionally and the wind does the job just as well.
