This has probably been asked before, but I can't find it if it has. I just purchased a very VERY slightly used (1487 miles) 2001 Sprint ST last week and I LOVE IT. The only thing I am having a problem with is the shift lever is too high. I tried adjusting it down by extending the shift lever rod, but the lever hits the rod before it is low enough for me.

As it sits now, I have to lift my foot completely off the peg to get it above the lever to downshift. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the adjustability is not helping, you can replace the whole lever linkage.

a 2000+ Daytona shifter is a direct retrofit, and is a direct connection to the transmission shaft.

a bit costly at $100 for a new part, maybe some breakers have a few. do a thread search for opinions and options.

Should be an easy fix:

1) Locate the shift arm attached to the engine and mark the end of the shaft and the arm's position with a grease pen (or the like)

2) Remove the single bolt that attaches this arm to the shaft.

3) pull the arm off noting the EXACT position, then rotate the shift arm in the direction that places the shift lever in the desired position (either clockwise or counterclockwise two or three splines).

4) Re-install the bolt and test. If not in desired position, refer to step one.

As a reminder, you may also want to return the rod-ends back to where they were.

cruzin57tbird,

Yeah, that is the one. sorry!

I noticed a scary thing tonight though. I kept smelling gas and discovered the fuel line is leaking pretty bad. The scary part is the fuel is running down various parts and ending up on the other side of the bike all around the alternator.

I'm hoping it is the fuel line connector that was recalled and will be covered work. Love the bike so far.
