I don't think my cyclops light works. It never comes on (even when you turn the key all the way clockwise and the rear light comes on). What is its purpose? When is it supposed to come on? what bulb does it take to fix if it's broken?
Also I had the idea of rigging it so it's on all the time with the headlights rather than just being a parking light - has anyone attempted this mod? Should be fairly simple I think, rewiring it to be on one of the headlight relays.
Cheers for any info!

On my '02 ST the city light comes on with the headlights and also in the park position.... until I removed it, not liking how it looked. It's a standard 168/194 bulb and easy to replace once you've got the fairing off. If you have tiny hands and long fingers you might be able to get it out without pulling the fairing. The socket is a quarter-turn unit and the bulb just pushes in.

Jon,

I've wondered about fitting a radar detector there. At least that way there's a possibility of some good coming from the thing.

Theoretical, I could (but haven't) cut away the rear of the light module, leaving the mounting holes and lens in place, and insert the detector from the rear. the detector would be permanently mounted and stay dry and out of harm's way.

I don't know whether or how much the lens might reduce the detector's sensitivity.

Just an idle thought.

on my '03, I replaced the bulb with a red one (I was already back there replacing a burnt out headlight bulb.

On a side note, I'm curious...what's the point of this light anyways? My '01 9R has a similar light, as does my '06 Sprint (and that's just a bulb in front of the high beam). Is it a pilot light to start the headlights with? :???:

:hammer:

It's a parking light, for when your bike is stranded on the side of the road at night.

Just back from the dealer, and I noticed a fair number of the BMW models have that little light, too.

It's a Euro / U.K. thing. In the U.K. alot of cars just drive around at night with only the park lights on !!! In certain conditions, by law, you have toput your park lights on.

Or maybe it is just saving electricity?? LOL
