I have been looking for a smaller case for everyday use since my Givi E52 Maxia case is just too big for anything short of a weekend trip.

I was considering one of the cheap Chinese knock-offs when I remembered I had an old Pelican 1550 gun case that was collecting dust in the closet. I drilled three holes in the bottom and used the mounting bolts from my Givi universal adaptor to attach the box to my OEM luggage rack.

Tough, waterproof and a perfect size for running errands, storing the stuff I carry around everyday, including my laptop and briefcase. The color is fairly close to my bike, too. I might even put a back rest on it.

If you have one of these cases laying around, they work great for this application.

Neat.

Trouble is Pelican cases out here are in a similar league to Givi boxes price-wise.

I just can't see a Pelican fitting in that box unless you iron it flat.

We get a lot of Pelicans here where I live but never seen a box for one.

They don't have Pelican's where Ern lives so that explains his confusion :-D :-D :-D :-D

DFWBiker,
Seriously it looks like a great match to me and a very good idea, even if a pelican wouldn't fit in it. It still looks very purposeful. :gpst:

Nice Pics too buddy.

Well, we have some small brown pelicans that would fit just fine. The big white ones would take a bit more effort!

Oh, and that's a Corbin seat.

Just pray no one recognizes that it's a Pelican case and decides to break in to steal the gun.

... I have the Givi EEEnormous case too and .. well... your Pelican looks about as big and is an aerodynamic as a brick.... Don't see how the pelican would "ride" better than the Givi.

The Pelican is my "around-town" box so aerodynamics aren't an issue. I rarely get out of 2nd gear when I ride down to the grocery store or coffee shop. I mainly use it because it's considerably shorter and shallower than the E52. Makes it much easier for me to throw my long legs over the bike. Plus, if someone decides to tamper with it, it's a hell of a lot cheaper to fix/replace than the Givi ($85 -vs- $320)

The E52:
23.4"L x 17.6"W x 12.4"D

The 1550:
20"L x 17"W x 8"D
