So as not to jump on the oil thread....what does everyone think of the K&N filters? I don't have a dealer close by but the local bike mech is suggesting the K&N oil filters they are @ $17.00 here verses $5-6.00 for a fram I've heard the frams are *****...

I use Purlators PL-14610 Pur-One model. Better filtering, slightly longer,(easier removal and installation) and they only cost around $5.00 US. They also have a PL-14612 Pur-One which is the same length as the stock filter if you're one of those who feel the filter will get damaged by being a bit (3/4") longer. I won't drabble on and give you all the reasons, I'll just give you the site address that has 'Plenty' of information and a list of all the other filters you can use instead of the stock unit.

PS I also use Shell Rotella T full synthetic oil which costs $14.38 at Walmart! Been using both now for over 22,000mi without incident. I used to change the oil every 3,000mi, now I wait until 4,000mi between changes.

There's a lot of info there and should answer everybody's questions on either subject.

well as long as we're listing filters i'll throw one more in the mix.

perf-form J-503 (J-503C if you like it chrome plated  )

http://www.perf-form.com/

My buddy uses their oil filters in his BMW - unfortunately you have to order in bulk to minimize the shipping charge and I have little garage storage at present so I have yet to order a bunch.

just another option . . .

I use the Mobil 1 oil filters in all of my vehicles, including my Sprint. I'm always impressed by the cleanliness of the oil when doing changes. I also cut and inspect the filter element when its replaced and the results are great every time. Just my 2 cents about a 12 dollar filter.

I used the K&N and the first one felt tight but did not seal. The threads were cut rough and probably not the correct pitch . The second one had the same problem, bad threads. I have been using the longer purolater now for several oil changes with absolutely no problems. Easy on, easy off. You can find them at most auto stores and the price is OK too.

Does anyone know what the 05/06 Sprint Oil filter part no. is? It isn't in the handbook.

Also what any OEM equivilents for th 05/06 are as I don't know if the 02-04 Oil filters fit the 05/06.

Thanks
Russ

After reading this thread I now have a headache!

I'm just a simple fellow so I just use Mr Bloor's filter. Yes it probably costs more but it's real easy to choose  .

yes stlakid I do change my own oils and filter inbetween each shop service where........ yes I watch. :hammer:

hi, Russ if you go to MCA at Liverpool or Parramatta and get HIFLOFILTRO oil filter part # Hf191 - $17.95, also get one Suzuki oil filter removal tool which fits the Triumph filter.
There may other filter cheaper, I have been using these filters with no problems. These filters suit 00-06 sprints, speed triples etc.
