Hi all last year I was reading peoples reviews of what they thought was best with their sprints in a rear tire, I had a pilot sport with a whole and wanted the best mileage/sportier type tire so I tried the Battlaxe 02 rear tire (and now front... ***** construction) Anyhow my battlax in the back is down to the wear marker as was pointed out by me dealer so I was wondering opinions this year on what's the best rear tire I can get. I'm looking primarily for mileage I can get off it as I commute 1.5 hours per day but with a bit of sport to it for more 'spirited' riding. I know there is no good comprimise between the 2 so impressions and actual mileage would be great. thanks.

rkx,
firstly hi buddy.

There are lots of tyre threads here and also reviews in the review section so my advise is do a search.

But in brief,

The most popular sports tourer tyres here are;
Avon Azaro ST 45/46
Metzeler Z6
Continental Road attack.

All the above give good milage and grip, Azaro's and Metzelers being very good in the wet.

if you want more sports handling, quick steering etc I'd personally plump for a Michelin Pilot Power.

I amn not a Bridgestone fan at all myself but each to their own.

My recommendation is your change a set not have different brands and profiles or miss matching tread patterns. This can and often does cause handling quirks especially if you ride hard and fast.

Hope that is helpful.

I got over 10K out of the stock Dunlops & just replaced them w/ Continental Road Attacks. Contrary to most, I put a 190 on the rear and can tell absolutely no difference in handling. There are those that say a larger rear tire will slow down your "turn in". I'm not too much on the sport side of ST, just a faster-than-average tourer. So far I'm content with the Conti's.

I've just gone through a set of 020's. I've used them for years and have always been happy with them, but this last set have been very disappointing.

I'm now using Shinko's R003 front & R009 rear. Its like riding a different bike. Handling problems that I thought were the suspension were actually the 020's.

I cant give you an idea of wear, but I understand Shinko's are cheap in your part of the world and available via mail order.

At this point i would recommend them.

Brett.

Pilot Roads also worth a look: good combo of grip in wet and dry, and wear.

Hearin' a lot of good about the Metzler Z6. I like the conti road attacks. Thing that get's me is I'm an average rider around here(as far as style of riding), and we all feel thrilled to get 5,000 miles out of a rear tire. 10,000 out of a front is unheard of, at least w/ any handling capability. Pilot roads were just too sluggish. Bo2o's were ok, but nothin' to brag about. If you're lookin' to increase mileage, I've had great luck using Ride-On. Increased the mileage on the pilot's and road attacks from 3,500 to 5,000. Good luck!
