Just wanted to let you guys know that long distance rallies are possible on an ‘03 Sprint!

I completed my first LD Rally, the MD2020 over labor day weekend and rode 1397 miles in 28 hours.
In the past I did a SS1000 and a few other longish rides as well.

FYI - I am 38, 220 lbs 6’0” with long legs and crappy knees from many miss-spent years on the ski slopes.

I added TM’s, Gen-Mars and a Corbin seat. No GPS (that would have been a BIG help) or other major mods.

Please ride those bikes – there were no other Sprints (that I can recall) in the rally. A Trophy or 2, but no Sprints! What is wrong with you people? Get out there and put some miles down!!! Just kidding.

But please do not be afraid to ride these bikes a long way – it can easily be done.

I completed an SS1k on my '04 ST recently. I'm 34yo, 6'4", 225lbs and have a 36" inseam along with a pair of rebuilt knees. I used a Corbin seat, but I removed the GenMars since I prefer riding without them. I did use a GPS, but mainly for the trip computer. I had the route memorized. I also had my iPod and XM radio wired to the Autocomm to help keep boredom at bay.

The bike was very comfortable and I had no complaints. The Sprint is an excellent long range machine.

I just completed a return trip from the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina to Cleveland, Oh - on two lane mountain roads - 17 hours in the saddle in one day. All stock 2001 ST. I did find my neck got a little sore between the shoulder blades and some mild monkey butt, but otherwise, quite capable of range comfort.

Just got back from Laconia, NH bike week. Put 2000 miles on her. I have 12k, and haven't owned it a year yet.

Had 28k on my last Sprint

Easy for big trips, great bike

Good for you, finishing a LD rally is an accomplishment to be proud of! There's a fellow on the ST/RS e-list that says he's got his Iron Butt entry and plans to use his Sprint ST. So they're out there. I can't say why there arn't more riding the newer Triumphs. Heck, I just came back from a 4200 miles in 1 week trip to CO. Rolled over 72k miles.
