OK so I've been lurking around this board for over a year and have known I've wanted a Sprint ST for about a year, I finally bought one in Tucson Az, I live in Sechelt BC @ 1800miles away Last Saturday I flew down to Tucson, the prev owner picked me up and took me to the DMV to get a permit and switch the title then we went to his house so I could actually see the bike in the flesh before this I'd only seen pics I found it on Walnecks, anyways by the time everything was all done I was on the road at 3:30 PM, I went up to Gila Bend AZ for my first fuel/water stop man was it hot 114 degrees....I'm from Canada we only have that kind of heat in our ovens for cooking...anyways I made it to Palm Springs that evening Motel 6 for $52.00 is great for me, The next day was to be my long one as I had to get some mile in if I want ed make Canada by the next Day. so on Sunday I started out at 6:00 and went through Pasadena then caught the I-5 north with one stop off in Gilroy Ca, to grab some Garlic it really is the best!!! Then back onto the I-5 slab again and finally stopped in Medford Ore. @ 8:30 pm was I sore ...maybe just a little but really not too bad 14 hours and the sprint performed flawlessly I can't believe it!!! The temps were all over 100 but the temp guage just sat above the cold line.
Monday I Left Medford and had to make it to the US border by 3:30 to officially export the bike they close at 3:30 so I was a little under pressure to make the border but made it there at 3:07pm, I then crossed into Canada paid my GST and import veh fee of $209.00 and was home drinking a cool one by 7:30pm
I reset the trip meter when I started so when I rolled into the driveway it was 1810 miles in 2 1/2 days I have to tell you guys I absolutely love this bike, it's only a 2000 so isn't the newest or fastest but it only had 10,000 miles on it when I got it and was maintained perfectly so for me it's a new bike. i just can't stop raving about how great this bike is!!!

Cool Suncoast that's a great intro trip to the Sprint. What a blast getting a new bike and a multi day ride :-)

Welcome to the riders club and enjoy the bike!

My first bike after a long (18yrs.) layoff was a 00' ST. A great bike! I had to sell it to make the move back to the west coast. I now ride a 00' RS after another layoff (2yrs.) I'm just now getting to where I push the bike a bit. Plenty o' power and handling for me. Granted, I'm no kid, but the bike will be better than me for some time to come. Suites me perfectly! I'm confident you'll enjoy yours as much as I do mine. :razz:

Hey Suncoast;
Glad to hear you made it home with no incidents. I know what you mean when you say you cant stop raving about the 2000ST. I've put about 500 miles on mine since I picked it up at TD's 2 weeks ago(can't put on long distances on Vancouver Island). Since then I have put on a new front tire(needed), a Gorilla alarm ( I feel better), a 12v power point and a Loobman chain oiler(a must). Let me know what gas your using. I've been using the Husky 10% ethanol high octane, but thinking of changing to Chevron as I noticed it was surging a bit more after the third tankful. Glad you are happy with your choice,(what colour?) I am still grinning.
Cheers and safe riding.
Rob D.

Great bike and great first ride. Too bad you didn't have the time to look around.

Hey Rob, I'm using Shell premium I think that in Sechelt at least Petro Can,Esso and Shell all use the same gas we only have one fuel delivery truck on the coast and he services all the stations, I tried some mid grade gas down south but the bike didn't seem to like it so I only use the premium stuff, I haven't seen any ethanol stuff here yet. My bike is the Blue....I think it is the nicest of all those years colors :razz:

Sounds like you had a lot of fun! My '02 is "new to me", too and I'm lovin' it. But I'm a tall and big guy (6'4 and 250 lbs) and 1800 miles in 3 days on the Sprint would have left me a cripple for life ... :wink:

I'm on vacation for the next week, and hope to rack up some miles (if the rain ever stops here in the northeast USA!)

Yes I think the bike actually broke me in....The corbin saddle was a little rough the first day but after sweating and moving around for 14 hours the second day it now fits like a glove!!!!

Suncoast: Great story and great ride! I'm sure you'll love your Sprint as much as I love mine. Picked my '02 up last September with 9400 miles on it from a RAT member in Allentown PA. Flew back there and picked it up and did 870 miles the first day. Allentown to Chicago and stayed with my sister and her family. Rain and fog the first 3 1/2 hours through the mountains. Four hours into the trip I had a guy in a beat up pick-up lose his tailgate right in front of me at 65mph in heavy traffic on the interstate. Thought I was going to be decapitated! Almost creamed my rompers. That would have truly sucked to have my bike for one tank of gas and then buy the farm because of some brain dead idiot! Got up the next day and did another 500 miles. Thankfully the rest of the trip was uneventful. You should come to the Kootenay Raid in Nelson BC next month! Take care and enjoy the bike.
