Hi all,

I have just bought a Mio A701 phone/PDA/GPS all in one unit, some RAM mounts to place the phone just above the clocks and under the bubble screen and a powered cradle. That was the easy bit!!

Now comes the bit I'm not too sure about, basically I want to know where the best place is to take the power from. The cradle comes with open wires to attach anyway but I'm no expert so would appreciate some advice on where the best place is from your experiences.

Can you help?

Cheers, Manic!

Do you have heated grips? If not, you can put a powerlet in the panel blank on the left front fairing. You can wire it to the factory grip connector.

If you do have the grips, you can mount a powerlet just above it, and wire it to the switched power lead from the grips. The switched lead only triggers the relay, so carrys no real load.

OR you can hardwire the cradle to the said grips connector.

good luck.

Hi,

I connect to the accessory socket on the bike. You will need the correct plug, which can be bought quickly and cheaply from Powerlet. Use the 'SUPER DUPER POWERLET PLUG - PPL-003'. They are based in the US but delivered to me in a few days.

Using the accessory socket gives me the advantage that I can quickly remove the whole cradle rather than having it wired in.

Cheers,

Django

Thanks for that chefjpd & Django...wanted to hardwire it in as the cradle will also be left on all the time. I have heated grips so hardwiring into there sounds great.

Do you know where Triumph connect their GPS unit to?

There is a connector under the right hand side of the top part of the fairing (under the right hand light) for the stock GPS. It is one of these.

Cheers,

Django

Hi manic, i have just connected my tom tom to the gps plug that triumph leave for you.
If you pop down to any accessory shop and pick up 2 of the small spade connectors and all will be sorted.
If you pull off the male end off the male end of the plug and take it with you so you get the right size.

Thanks guys! I've been looking around on the net trying to get some connectors that Django mentioned...I didn't realise that they were already there except the inner spade connectors...which I can easily get. Just nipped down to the bike and there it was, all waiting for me. I thought I needed the complete female connector.

Trying to get those AMP Econoseal thingies is a right pain, unless you want at least 100! But I only want 1...DOH!

Next time look at the flippin bike first...silly boy pike! :hammer:

Marvin i got the spade connector down at my local lucas autocentre.
They sell a plug socket that looks the same as the triumph gps socket and i just used the spade conectors inside.
I think they were £1, if you have any probs i will get them and post to you.
