I went out to ride today and my RS battery was dead. I had a new one installed a month ago and have ridden 1500 miles since then without a problem. So I charged the battery and started the bike and noe the engine light is on and stays on. I also noticed a slight flickering in the speedo as if it is going dim/bright to the idle of the motor. Electrical problems are not a friend of mine and I could use some advice or if anyone has had the same problem what was the outcome?

Thanks in advance,

Tim E

I'm on my 3rd battery on my RS, but both previous batteries have lasted at least a year, and a fair few miles.

One dealer I spoke to adviced charging the battery every other week or so if the bike's not used over the winter, to ensure that the battery life is extended.

Other than that you could check that the battery leads are properly fastned, and no corrosion around the connections.

My brother had similar symptoms to this, and it was caused by him not tightening the battery connections properly. He had to have the dealer put the light out (twice at £20 a time!) before he spotted the fault. Management tool just says "Battery reversed" which is odd.

My battery died, I jumped it and rode the bike. During this time my speedo didn't work at all and the check engine light was on. I went a bought a new battery from wal-mart and a trickle charger. I got one of those adapters that plug right into the accessory plug to keep it charged without removing the seat. Anyway, once the new battery was in the speedo worked fine. The check engine light will turn on when the battery is low, to get it to turn off get the bike to operating temperature three times. I guess the speedo will stop working if the battery level is too low.
