I found this bike on e-bay and it's only an hour from my home. I'm going to see the owner tomorrow and take a look. He told me to
bring my riding gear so that's a good sign.
I guess it depends on your expectations. I like knowing exactly what I'm getting if possible. If you can live with the scratches you may be getting a deal. If you plan to restore it to new, you better just go buy new. Parts and/or painting will be very pricey. If you want the heated grips you will probably have to spring for the wholoe thing. You can buy the grips separate (I think they are around $85), but I don't know about the switch. Like the ad says, there will be a square hole on top of the side body panel. And where is the wire harness?
I've put several scratches on my'99 over the last 5 years and I can live with that. But I prefer the pride in ownership of starting with something that is all mine and complete.
Check out cycletrader.com If you monitor daily, you can pick up a screaming bargain. I bought my 2900 mile, well optioned 2000 ST for $5500 including transfer tax and license on the first day it came on cycletrader.com
Personally I don't believe anyone who says that it was a "minor accident" when the whole fairing - both sides - is gone. IMO - I wouldn't touch the bike with a 10' pole as there are too many other clean bargain bikes to be had.

Well, the guy e-mailed me that the bike sold today to another local so I guess I'll keep looking.
Thanks for the input!
