Multi Grade ie 10/40, 20/50
or single grade?

Synthetic, semi-synthetic or non-synthetic?

What brand do you prefer?

My Mechanic uses Semi synthetic 10/40; however, living in a desert 100+ F. I find the oil to be a little thin...I think I'll change to 20/50 Semi-Synthetic for the summer.

Thoughts, suggestion or opinions?

The owners manuel specs full synthetic Mobil 1 multi weight (I think 20w 50w).
In any technical article I have ever read rating oils Mobil full synthetic is among the best.
A cheaper alternative may be Amsoil full synthetic, again highly rated.
When you do the math, oil is not really a large expense over the riding season. I spend much more on caffene on my rides!
I presently use Mobil 1. Probably a very good idea if you ride in very hot climates. This oil will not break down when used correctly.

YAOT (Yet Another Oil Thread)!

I've been a good little consumer and have handed over the $12/L for the Triumph/Mobil1 stuff since I got the RS. I found myself complaining about the cost, but in the RSV I'm running Silkolene full synthetic and that isn't much cheaper at $10/L.

I've been using the Triumph Mobile 1 in my M900 since my local dealer started selling triumphs. I intend to use it in both bikes.

Steve - When did you buy the RSV?

My Cindy only gets Mobil 1 Synthetic. It is costly when you change it every three months due to mileage. Did I mention I ride my Cindy everywhere all the time?!?

A few weeks ago. I went to an open house at one of Denver's larger dealers. I made the mistake of agreeing to join a demo ride of Tuonos and RSV's and one thing led to another.... Now I find myself thinking how can I turn the RS into a S3 if I can't sell it?

I use Amsoil 10w40 year round. Heck Amsoil full synthetic is less than the dealer sell the semi-stuff for.
I've tried like crazy to get that dealer to carry Amsoil for me but he won't have anything to do with it.

Such a shame when he could have a fully synthetic product under $25 per gallon when he is selling the mobil 1 stuff for $50.

Shell Advance SX4 15w/50....synthetic fortified.
But my advice is whatever your choose get it in a 20 litre drum. My oil costs $90 Australian (that's U.S. $65 or 40 U.K.pounds) for 20 litres from the Shell depot. It works out twice+ the value of buying 5 litre packs at a bike shop.

The Shell Advance is nice but they don't sell it in the US. I've been using the Amsol without any problems.
