Can anyone tell me what the thing with the two rubber balls is that mounts underneath and behind the license plate? I have no idea what it is there for and I think it is pretty ugly.

Here is what I am talking about. See link:

The part behind the blinker in front of the tire. Can anyone tell me what that is used for?

And here it is again. See http://tinyurl.com/zjnoa. Just to the left of the red reflector. Anyone know what this thing is or what it does? Is it supposed to slide back and forth?

It looked to me like it's to keep the boxes from getting into the wheel if they are bumped hard or you drop/lay down the bike.

When the bags are on, they act as "bumpers" to keep side to side motion to a minimum. I think you'd find that without them the bags would tend to "flap" in the breeze, and perhaps put undue stress on the rail mounts.

Triumph designed the luggage on the 05 to be able to move side to side slightly, it aids stability apparrently.
The balls act as a link between both cases so if one moves so does the other, they sort of counterbalance each other.
The top box system also 'floats' .

I remove the balls when not carrying the luggage (just twist and one of the balls should come off) and leave the bracket in place (it is unnoticeable behind the license plate).
