I'm thinking of buying a Sprint RS and wanted to know if there are any issues with the bike. I assume that it is the same with the exception of the fairing to the Sprint ST. I currently own a Thruxton but after riding a 2003 Sprint ST that motor is great. Thanks...

Well depending on the year, the RS has different gauges, bars (lower/forward), fairings and swingarms from the ST. The '04 RS shares the single sided swingarm (SSSA) with the ST. The 955i engines are the same, with both models getting the upgraded engine in '02-'04.

I prefer the riding position of the ST, but that's just a personal preference issue.

There are no real issues with the bikes. Just be sure the all the recall maintenance has been performed. Any dealer can tell you if it needs this work if you give them the VIN.

What DFWBiker said plus

The fork rake is also slightly different which gives it a sportier feel. I am quite tall and the position suits me very well.

If you do less touring and more sports riding IMO the RS is the bike but this is a personal feel. The RS is still very good for two up and doesn't make the pillion sit on an uncomfortable dickie seat.

The ST was out of my price range when I started looking and the RS suited my boy racer style more.

Both are great bikes with no major reliability or quality issues. In my case anyway. Great bike, I have never regretted the decision to buy my Triumph.

My 0.02 cents worth (Aus)

Triumph have had problems (before 2006) with their fuel injection. Make sure that the engine runs smooth at all speeds, especially below 85 KM/hour, approx 50 mph. Also check that the engine returns to 1100 rpm when idling. I had problems with this on my Sprint RS-00 and had to re-map the electronic management system.

... and one more thing, you're going to have to develop ways to politely reject all the hot young ladies wanting to go for a ride. :-D

And why would you want to reject those requests.... The bike is the only thing that makes me attractive to them (well a lot of alcohol used to work as well) :roflmoa2:

You're keeping the Thruxton, I hope. I sold my 2004 Sprint RS after getting my Thruxton. In retrospect, I should have found a way to keep the RS, but in the heat of the moment ..I let it go. At the time the Thruxton had completely won me over, but over time, I realize there are situations where the RS would be the bike of choice. Don't misunderstand, I love the Thruxton as much as ever, but having a choice to fit the bike to the situation is nice to have!

Thanks for the info guys. No, the Thruxton will have to go. I'm eliminating all my bikes except one and that may be the Sprint RS if I buy it. One of the reasons why I'm also looking at the Sprint is because the Moto Guzzi (I just sold the EV) does not have a programmable ECU so it always has that lean spot at around 4000 rpm's especially if you do any changes to the airbox/pipes which I have done. When I tried the Sprint ST it had no flat spots or herky-jerky fuel delivery which in traffic gets annoying. Plus the Sprint has more power. Also, most importantly, there is a Triumph dealership 10 miles away while the nearest Moto Guzzi dealer (actually a Ducati dealer) is 40 miles away and they always seem to be booked 2 months in advance. I do most of my own work but it is nice to know that help is close by. I also have had very little go wrong with the Thruxton other than the rubber boots for the relays and the battery strap failing. The only thing the Thruxton does not like with the airbox eliminated and K&N's on is the rain. I would relly like to buy a new Daytona 675 but the pocketbook says buy the Sprint. Maybe this is for a new topic but I saw on one Sprint RS a chin spoiler-anybody know the source? Thanks once again...

Triumph. Optional part from factory. Check E-Bay as new ones are about $250.00, but at least they come pre-painted in the correct color for that price.

Here's a picture. This is obviously for the older pre 2002 engines........
