Hi Det,
Thanks for the heads up, I'm interested, but have some friends coming for dinner on Sat so would need to be back in St Marys by 5 (leave Wollongong by 4pm at the latest).

Any chance you could get an idea of the finish time?
Russ

Russ

That should not be a problem. Hoply we are heading north for this ride but when it is home it home time. I think the good wife is coming on here CB 250 and I can not see her going on a long ride. I will get back to everyone with more info when I here back from Ross.

Here all the info

This months ride is on Saturday the 17th (this Saturday) after a morning BBQ at City Coast Motorcycles, kicking off at 9.30am. Martin and his team will be our hosts and I'll be looking for a volunteer to lead the ride as I'll be unavailable to do so, I will be at the BBQ however. The ride will head off at 11am, destination will be determined on the day.

Come one come all who can make it

:chug: Det

Hope you blokes had a good ride. It looks like the weather gods were good to you today.

A ride report so I can live vicariously for a little longer would be good.

Brett.

Hi guys,
I'm not much chop with the names and details, but it was a good morning at the shop and a nice leisurely ride through some open country home.

Firstly, got there about 915am. Met Ross (Black ST) and a few other folk as people dropped in for the BBQ. Duncan on a green ST and Simon on a spanking new WHITE Speed Triple. Check out my pics - a lovely bike.

Det arrived on the flash looking silver ST as did Paul on a new Rocket (still being run in) and a Bonneville and America (Det - what are these guys names??). After some breaky and yarning, (and sharing some sausages with the shop mascot - a beautiful brindle Staffordshire Terrier).

Martin the sales manager was very cool and low key. Didn't mind how long we yacked in his car park on the busiest day of the week for the shop - thanks for breakfast dude.

Ok, about 1130 we decided to go for a run. Weather as 8.5-18.5C and bright sunlight. Couldn't ask for a better day. There were 5 of use that could make the ride, (others had used the breaky excuse just to say g'day). The 5 bikes were, Russ, Red Sprint ST; Det, Silver ST; Paul, Rocket III, XXX Black America; XXX Black/Red Bonneville.

Det took the lead and took us through town to Mount Kembla. A great back road with fantastic views over Port Kembla, Wollongong and out to sea as it climbs the escarpment. Watch out for moss and moisture but taking it easy mean you could sneak peaks of the view. From here, the back way through Douglas Park and a great view of the f'way bridge over a creek (the Nepean River maybe??) before a sedate run through Picton and then a little blat over Mt Razorback on the old Hume. The black America has aftermarket exhausts and sounds a treat. Even louder than Det's staintune, the parallel twin sounds fantastic.

Finally through to the Oaks turn off with some nice sweepers before the road on to Silverdale. This road has low traffic, although there are some tourists on the w/e, and is just a bit too bumpy and narrow to let fly too much. After Silverdale, and finding Warragamba Dam is still closed to the public we stopped at Wallacia pub for lunch.

After lunch, we headed off for the Northern Rd for the return trip. I left the guys there to head home to St Marys. All up about a 260K round trip for me.

Thanks Ross and Det for organising. Sorry you couldn't make it Brett.

Det do you want to flesh the report out with more detail?

There's also some pics of the new R1200GS Adventure, Daytona 675, R1200S at the shop. Next time we need test rides on them all :-)

Thanks Russ. Interesting read.

How about lining folk up alongside their bikes in the next report so I know who I'm talking to in virtual time? Or would Netnanny throw a fit :-D

We did the Great Ocean Rd., today, Lorne to Apollo Bay, and then some continued on the wet to Laver's Hill. Good riding, mild weather, enough wet patches to keep the sphincter clenched and the boys in blue were scarce. The Sprint sports a 2nd hand Power and I now reckon it was cooked on a track day. Will look at BT014's as a replacement just for interest - readily available at the wreckers and some guys like 'em. Got to get the shock rebuilt too - got 32k km on her and hasn't had much rebound damping for quite a while. Makes for good exercise on a hard ride.

Will try and get some linked people bike shots. We did for the ride on 3rd June but except for Det and I everyone else was different.

:-) How long do you get from second-hand tyres? Does it make the fitting fees worthwhile?

I've just email 3 US tyre resellers to see if I can get the Avons/Contis (could get others too) direct from the US. The come out about AUS$330 plus shipping so if the shipping is about AUS$50 and fitting is about $60-70 then there's a potential to save $100 a set. All depends on whether they will a) ship international and b) what the actual shipping costs are.

If it looks doable I might start an aussie tyre thread to see if there's any interest in getting a few sets....

Sounds interesting Russ, let me know what the upshot is. A bulk lot might be wirth it. With the right tools and the correct beer, changing them yourslef isnt that hard, saving you the fitting fee.
