This is on the 2004 models only, correct? Does this change the weight/handling characteristics versus the RS's w/ the regular swingarms? Do the 2004 RS's weigh more than previous models because of the swingarm?

Just curious...

Thanks,

- John

The 2000 thru 2003 Sprint RS specs all show 199kg (438lbs)... unfortuantely, I have never been able to find any specs on the 2004 RS... and I have looked before...

just for grins I did a google search on "2004 sprint rs specs"... found one on ebay that sold, and the seller posted the weight as 207kg (456lb)...

There were people who said that Triumph built SSSA versions of the RS in 03 as 03's but I have never seen or heard anyone actually lay claim to owning or touching one. I'd bet the SSSA is a bit heavier but not enough to really matter. If I would have my choice of SS or DS I would pick DS but in the grand sceme it really doesn't matter. When I bought my 04 RS I wanted as much to be the same as my 02 ST as possible for parts interchangeability. Right now I miss my RS but when I made the decision 04 RS or 02 ST, all logic pointed to the ST.

My dealer had complete DSSA and SSSA assemblies (sans tires) laying around his shop one day and weighed them on his scale. I don't remember the actual weights, but I do remember that the SSSA weighed 19lbs more than the DSSA.

I bought my SSSA RS in Feb '04 & it is compliance dated as '03, so there are definitely '03 ones in Australia. I read somewhere that they were originally made for the German market & only came in BRG.

As to the weight I test rode a couple of 2nd hand DSSA models & couldn't notice any great difference in perfomance to mine.

Hell, mine has a SSSA, and I'm in the grand old state of Tennessee. So they're definitely here in the states.

He was referring to the '03 RS's with the SSSA. Pretty rare bird. I've yet to see one. '04's are common in comparison.
