I'm talking pre-1050cc engine ST's. What are the major differences? Are the engines the same? The suspension? Or is the RS just a half-faired version of the ST?

Thanks,

- John

The major differences are the fairings, bar position and swingarms....although the 2004 RS's had the same SSSA as the ST.

RS's are much faster and sexier, especially if they are black!

From what I've read, the engine is the same, and is also shared with the Daytona.

I think you nailed it with the RS is basically a half-faired version, with a couple of small differences:

Lower initial price when new(Due to
No centerstand
No electric accessory plug
Electric Speedo

That's all I can recalll off the top of my head.

The fork rake is slightly longer as well giving it a racier attitude. It is only a matter of degrees but alters the turn in slightly (apparently). I'm a chef, not a henengineer!!

They have clip on bars, not the upswept bars of the ST

The mirrors and indicators are "less expensive" than the ST's,

NO, I DIDN'T SAY CHEAPER !!

and it's sexier and more boy racer than the ST IMHO

I think Triumph pitched the ST as as little more "touring" and the RS as a little more "sport"

lower bars, slightly different rake, 6-7kgs lighter and half fairing , lower purchase price = sports

more upmarket dash, full fairing, hard bags = touring

I preferred the look of the RS from the start (I am basically a sucker for the look of a naked bike, but i wanted some protection from the elements and the RS filled the role) but I'm in the minority. The fact that some of the differences made it cheaper was a bonus for me.
