Just picked this up Wednesday. Put about 300 miles on it today going up to the Mackinac bridge for the picture. http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/867/dsc014790yb.jpg

Its amazing how much more powerful and comfortable it is over my old EX500.

Now a question. The throttle handle seems to have about 1/4" of play before it actually opens the throttle. Is this normal or can it be adjusted? Thanks in advance!

welcome aboard Chillerguy.you're a refrigeration engineer?

Thats a fine looking machine.A hugger is be a good idea to keep the crud off your rear shock.

If you like it already you have a lot to look foward to as it continues to improve - just a very well balanced package.

Mine had excessive throttle freeplay which got adjusted out at the first service - it should be sorted at the pre delivery check though.

Enjoy,

Grant

I work for a company that manufacters water chillers for lasers and , well, just about anything else that needs cold water! I used to do some design but I do more service now. And yes, I definately see the need for a rear hugger, its already getting filthy back there.

Congratulations! Thats one fine looking motorcycle, if I do say so...

There should be a small amount of play in the throttle cable to allow the handlebars to go from lock to lock without pulling on the cable and winding the throttle on. It shouldnt be excessive, just like the play in the clutch cable.

If you like it now, just wait until the run in period is over and you explore the rev range.

Cheers,
Brett

Welcome to the world of Trumpy's. They're a great allrounder, superlative motor, and is folks have here, don't look half bad :-) Enjoy!

If you feel excessively jerky on the throttle at low speeds in the lower gears, then it's very likely there's too much throttle play.

You can adjust it yourself quite easily, or as others have mentioned get it down on your first service.

The only time I notice it is when I'm blipping the throttle to downshift. Its hard to be consistent with it because of the slack.

There are two places to adjust the throttle cable slack. The easy one is under the rubber boot on the cable by the ignition switch. If there isn't enough adjustment in this one, then you have to go to the other one which is by the throttle bodies and requires removing the fairings, gas tank and airbox.

Well then, lets hope I can do it under the rubber boot!

That thing looks familiar. Now add the Triumph TOR exhaust and tune, BMC now has an air filter too.
