I search the site for previous post but couldn't find any useable information.

I am the owner of a 2006 Sprint St and while I absolutely love the bike, I find the suspension a little bit too soft, even for sport-TOURING purposes. What suspension settings are other ST riders using for 2-up and loaded bag operation?

Did you increase the preload? Front and back? By how much?

Dingsbums,
I do a lot of hard two up riding and use the "manual" two up settings.

I use these settings when I ride solo also and this is quite firm. I weigh 100 kilos and am 5'10.

The front forks are a bit soft for my weight and the way I ride and I am one day going to put a heavier weight oil in. I do not at this stage intend doing the springs or valving them.

I have scraped both my pegs and the fairing belly pan often when riding two up and solo, this is mostly due to the fork spring weight being a bit light for me.

Check my album, the fairing scrape is now much longer.

I know mine is an '04 but I think you have the same suspenders even though you have a new engine and frame.

Good luck.

I would start out with the manuals settings than make your adjustments from there.

I will find a suspension set up website and post it in a moment for you.

Give this link a go. I found that it explains things very well. I've used this method many times with good results.

http://www.racetech.com/articles/Sus...AndSprings.htm

I've just gone through the process of setting the pre load on my 05 ST to 35mm, both ends. I'm 6'0 at about 75 - 80kgs and found that I nearly ran out of adjustment increasing the pre load. With only 12,500kms on the bike, this means the springs are on the soft side. With rebound only damping on the rear, the bike has a hard time on sharp bumps, resulting in a harsh ride.

If I load up to go on a trip, or carry a pillion, or both, I know the soft springs and lack of damping arent going to cope to well, so taking it easy will be the order of the day.

I had the same problem on my '99 ST. Upgrading the suspension is money well spent. Why Triumph didnt put fully adjustable suspenders on the 05 & 06 ST, or at least make it an option, is beyond me.

I mucked around with the suspension on the '99 ST a lot. This time I'm saving to fully upgrade at both ends. It will be on the expensive side but worth it. So far I havent heard of anyone doing this on this model so when I do I'll post my results.

Cheers,
Brett.

Hello.
This is my first post, so sorry if it a bit long winded.
I also found the standard springs to be too soft. I am only 85Kg, so I shouldn't have been too taxing on them. When I tried to set the front sag, I was left with about 3 mm of protrusion on the adjuster, which I thought was a bit strange considering the standard setting is 10mm.I also found that the front forks quickly got out of their depth over broken surfaces, and exibited the same symtoms I experienced once when I put too heavy a grade of fork oil in my cousins BM. This was a pattering feeling over bumps as the suspension packed down because it couldn't rebound quick enough. This made the bike move towards the outside of bumpy broken surface corners. Very disconcerting to say the least. What I thought was that the soft part of the dual rate springs was too soft for the damping. I contacted Race Tech, explained the problem, and ordered a set of .9Kg springs. These got rid of that feeling and hasn't made the forks harsher by any significant amount. I also added about 15mm to the oil height, which bought it up to the recommended height of 110mm, as measured with the springs out and the forks fully compressed. This has proven to be a very worth while mod.
Hope this helps.

DaveM,
Excellent site. Seen a bunch of others but that one is best I've seen.

Hi Rodney,
yes I agree it's the best site I have seen about suspension. I can understand it so that's saying something! (me not being an expert mechanic type).

But I cannot claim fame for locating it, some other rat member here discovered it and posted it sometime ago when the subject came up as it always does.
