I scratched the left engine cover on my 2004 RS (don't ask me how) to the metal, and would like to touch it up. The biggest scratch is about 1/4" by 1/2". What is the suitable paint (satin finish?), and best way to do it?

Thx!

I have painted mine using high performance gloss rustoleum paint. Looks good. Did it on an 04 RS and 02 ST. The ST I just masked it off. If you want to do it up right you can take the cover off.

You can get PJ1 engine cover paint. It matches well, I found it at a Harley place.

Thanks everyone!

dolson: so which finish of the ALUMA-HYDE II paint do you recommend for the engine? Semi-Gloss Black (083-002-112)?

Check Eastwoods catalog/online http://eastwoodco.com if you want to get the perfect thing for your exact problem. They have any and every kind of paint and related supplies and specialty stuff. Probably even have something to fill in the gash to make the piece look as new vs. painted over gash. All depends on how good you want to fix it.
