Bike is a 2000 Sprint RS with 9800 miles. Questions are:

Can I lower it? if yes who makes the kit

My MPG is around 30 and I ride it real easy. Is this about normal or should I look into it?

What are the basic mods that yall do to these bikes?

Im not really interested in goin faster I just like having the power at my disposal :-D I have already researched the sprocket change to a 18T on the front for these bikes and a D&D exhaust. anything that yall might suggest?

Thanks
Josh

Lo Mini_k

I to run a 2000 RS, mods are all up to the individual.

Personally I have fitted a Scorpion can (sounds fantastic), a touring screen (reduces buffeting) a Tribor seat cover (keeps the wife where she should be) and recently a set of Genmar bar risers (helps reduce the aching wrists on longer rides).

I use my bike to run to and from work, 25 miles a day and see between 43 / 46 to the gallon.

Have toured the UK for holidays 2 up with luggage, and with some sedate sight seeing speeds have managed 52 to the gallon.

hope this helps.

Mini_k,
I can't answer your "lowering question" but 30mpg sounds pretty poor milage to me. I ride very briskly on my Sprint every weekend and I get 50mpg.

As for mods I have the following on my bike;

Triumph rear hugger,
Radguard oil & radiator protector
Triumph Gel seat
Ventura Packrack
Triumph Datatool S3 alarm system
Triumph Daytona rear hub nut cover
Triumph SS race can
Triumph CF race can (not at the same time )

Photos in my album of all the bits and an assortment of different tyres also.

If you are doing mostly city driving, then the 30mpg is fairly realistic.

Often I burn whole tanks in Manhattan traffic, and I get around 32mpg.

It seems the most cost-effective way to lower your bike is to remove foam on the seat. They just recurve it and blammo, you are an inch or so closer to the ground. I've heard about chaps raising the forks in the clamps or even turning the chain adjuster upside down.
There are companies that make Truimph-fitting adjustable foot pegs, but they are race oriented and cost about $500 bones.

Good luck!

awesome, thanks guys for the info. I only have to drive 3.5 miles to work everyday so the mpg seems about right. I cant wait to do some hwy miles and see what she'll do.

The lowering i was curious about cause i am a short bastard and sometimes find it hard to have both feet on the ground. I know you can lower some bikes like the busa but wasnt sure about these. The only other thing that i have read about and want to make sure im right is that these engines make alot of noise.

Thanks again
Josh

Mini_k,
it is true that the engines lean to the noisy side compared to some other marques.

Don't worry about the noise, if it bothers you that much, get yourself some decent ear plugs.

I went from a 600 Bandit to my sprint and began to worry that i had bought a bag of spanners. Once you get out on the open road and wind it up it will sound sooooooo sweet.

Yep.

As for mileage, I see only minor diff between hard riding and suburban commuting. Both modes she's nudging 300 km out of around 16 l.

You can get some lowering by winding back spring pre-load front and back (at the expense of handling). But lowering too much just means your pegs are going to drag sooner.

Don't forget that US gallons are smaller than Imperial gallons. 30 mpg in the US is equivalent to about 38 mpg in the UK, which is pretty decent for a 3.5 mile commute

Cheers
