Hi

I know there has been threads around this a couple of years back, but I cannot find a search facility, and not the threads, so here goes the question:

My RS is set up with only one light on at a time. I know you can get extra relays to get double the feeble light, and I know that there's an expensive Triumph part, and an identical 'hardwarestore' part that'll both do the job.

I'm going over to Canada (Ontario) over the summer (family holiday, no bike...) but was wondering if anyone could get me details for what part/relay type I'm looking for, as well as any store chains that deal that part.

Of course a guide for how to find the old thread(s) would also suffice...
:???:

AAA,
it is just a relay as far as I know and not costly.

My dealer did mine before I took delivery. Someone here will know exactly what you do.

Good luck

Try here...........T595 link

And here......Maplin Electronics Page

These look to be standard Bosch relays you can get at any auto stereo supply store or any auto parts store.

While you are at it change the headlamp bulbs for Xenon bulbs. The ones I use are the Osram Silver Star ones which come highly recommended by the motoring press even better than the Philips ones.

You will need a pair of H4 type (combined main and dip beams). The difference is incredible !. Going from 1 std headlamp to 2 Xenon headlamps is like having 4x as much light and much better spread of light, and are safe with plastic lenses.

The 12V55W Xenon bulbs are completely legal in Europe

I think this is a no brainer that makes the bike much safer to ride at night !

Got mine from http://www.powerbulbs.co.uk/

Do what Vinny suggests. The Osram Silverstars are just about the best lighting option going without getting your wallet rapped. (IE PIAA) There is also as he noted a difference to the Silverstars (Sylvania) you see in places like Autozone. They although an improvement over a stock bulb, they are NOT as good as the Osram version.

That being said when you use Vinnys link to Power Bulbs (also a good call) there is an offer there for their house branded bulbs with an offer of buy one set get one set free. This is a great offer and since I have purchased my Osrams and their brand from them I can tell you their shipping is top notch.........and free! What you won't find out is who actually makes their branded bulbs....except here.

They are GE Mega White Plus bulbs which are an equivalent bulb to the Osram product. I even saw one or two review sites where they thought the GE stuff might be just a bit better. (but it was very subjective) Basically what I'm getting at is use Vinnys link if you need some new headlight bulbs and if you have to buy with a friend as the 2 for 1 is a killer deal and a great product. You will also get a pair of marker bulbs that will fit that center cyclops marker lamp in the fairing for free too. Shipping was 4-5 days to the states.

Thanks for the Replies....

I'll see what I can get. It's been a late spring over here, and did not get back on the bike until beginning of April - so by now I won't really get to test lighting in anger until autumn...

Pre planning I think it's called (or late planning, as I've had the bike for over 5 years - and the headlight has always been one of the crappier bits).

Drive Safely, boys.....

its just two relays, theres even a place for them on the relay block. one enables the dipped beam on one headlight, the other does the full beam on the other side, so both are on all the time and its made a massive difference to my '04 ST, even without changeing the bulbs. dont know what sort of relays off the top of my head but mail me and ill go pull one out for a look mate

It was the first thing that I had done to my RS.

Brilliant (pun) & cheap mod

I thought that it was only one relay and cost about $25 (Oz). I do a bit of night riding and the difference is amazing.
