Hello everyone.

Just signed on to the forum and what a great thing we have here! I am still shopping for a bike and trying to decide between Ducati ST3 and Sprint ST.

Just wanted to say hello and forewarn that there'll be many newbie questions coming from my end.

Howdy and welcome. If you are looking for an ST3, here's a couple that showed up over on another forum I visit...

Personally I prefer the Sprint because the maintenance costs are so much lower than on any Ducati. Plus the bikes (Sprint ST vs. ST3) are similar in most aspects except the Sprint is simply more powerful.

Hmmm...the linky no worky. Must copy & paste to get them to work...

When I was at the crossroads of bike purchas I too had the same question only I had 1050 ST, Duc ST3, and Honda VFR 800.

When it all came down to the decision I decided the ST was for me. And that meant waiting five months for the first shipment of the 05's. Did manage to get the first on in Oregon.

The Duc and the Honda are great bikes and could have had one the first day I started looking, but there was something about the Sprint. I don't think I would have been happy with myself if I was out ridding one day on one of the other two bikes and saw some dude on a 1050.

That is what made my decision.

Having more power helps too.

Good luck with your decision. You will be happy with whichever one you choose.

hchon,
welcome aboard buddy. Both the Trium ph Sprint ST and the Ducati ST3 are good bikes. I ride sometimes with a friend who has an ST3 and he likes it a lot.

One thing to consider is, if like me, you can't be bothered doing your own maintenance, you will pay considerably more for all the Ducati services, the services I believe are also more frequent than the Triumph Sprint.

My best friend had a 996 I think it was, and he had the shop do it, very expensive maintenance. It was the sole reason he sold it and bought a VTR 1000 (which he loves I might add).

However if you do your own wrenching it won't make any difference.

happy hunting hchon.

Welcome.

We have the odd Duke rider join us on club rides. I've learned that you have to be really dedicated to put up with the Duke's maintenance antics - mind you, the rewards are there too, with the handling and the exclusivity factor.

Jeez I think it's all been said.

The Sprint has a bit more power and cheaper and longer service intervals and good street cred and good handling.

The Duke has great cred, great handling, good performance, but not as much power, shorter and more expensive service intervals.

As DaveM said, if you do you're own services not a huge issue. And you'll like both as sport tourers.

Personally, I prefer the liquid cooled 4 valve Dukes and they're just too ***** expensive to run, a little small in the chassis for me and a lot more than the Sprint to buy.

So the Sprint won out no arguments :-) .

Whichever you pick - enjoy.

Russ
