hi guys, a question to everyone with a 955i sprint (and tiger probably)-
what is your oil consumption? also the kind of riding you do would be helpful.
i think mines pretty high, i wont tell you what it is yet till i know whether its normal or not. ive been used to jap fours that dont lose a thimble full between changes, so this is new to me. my mate's bmw uses a litre every month or so which is normal to them, but they run on cooking fat and my ST uses bloody expensive stuff!!
im using castrol GPS, with the grades laid down in the handbook. the kind of riding i do is mostly town commuting in low gears with the odd "letting off steam" blast once a week. during the winter no long rides so its probably not getting high temps

I'm pretty sedate when I ride. I do a lot of highway miles and commuting in the city. I don't spend much time with the tach over 5k, but I like to romp on it from time to time. Currently, I have just over 11k miles on the clock.
I change the oil in my '04 ST every 3k miles. I've changed it twice so far this year and noticed no consumption between changes. I use Royal Purple Max-Cycle 10w/40...in case you wanted that info, too.

My 2004 ST doesn't use any oil at all between changes. My first ST was the same up to 15000 miles, when it started to burn oil. It ended up with new pistons, rings, cylinder liners and valve guides all being replaced under warranty. Normal service was resumed after that.

21k on my '01 Sprint ST and not a drop between 5k changes. With over 65k on my old '99 Trophy 1200, never a drop there either about the same interval.

I have 30,000 miles on my 02 Sprint ST and change my oil every 6,000 miles. I have never had to add a drop between changes.

davsato,
mines low milage at about 22,500kms, but mostly hard riding, no commuting just weekend blasting.
No oil added in between oil changes. I change the oil and filter every 5000 kilometres.

At 12,000 miles mine started using half a quart every 2,000 miles. I took the breather box off and looked at the intake valves (pictures in my mods album click below). It seems odd to me that one valve looks clean and one covered in carbon on the same cylinder. Valve #6 was the worst by far. I called the dealer and they talked with Triumph about it. They want to replace some seal on the breather box. I don't think this will fix the problem, I think it is a leaking valve guide. Why would one valve look clean and the other be so crappy looking? I use injector cleaner in about every other tank of gas so I don't think it is a clogged injector jet.
I do 6-8 track days a year and commuting, mostly commuting and what I could call average riding, not too hard but get on it a few times a week.

32,000 km on mine; mostly hard riding. Used about 200-250ml b4 last oil change. Interval: 10,000 km; oil: the recommended muck.
btw, my experience with Yammie twins is that they tend to consume oil; mates have had the same experience.

right, i just did an oil/filter change, went for a run and now its topped up to the top mark with castrol GPS. ive even marked the garage floor where the stand goes so it goes in the same place. i will check it weekly and keep a note, and let you know in a couple of months what she drinks.

Off topic but my X5 4.4i used to drink about 1 qt per 1k miles. I was told that was "normal" for "performance" cars.
