Last Sunday, whilst out for a ride I managed to bin my ST on a tight RH bend Happily I walked away with just a few bumps and bruises.
The bike's away with the insurers to assess whether it's worth repairing, but I suspect that it's a write off.
I'm not a supersitious person usually, but I can't help but think this has been an unlucky bike for me. I've been riding for about 20 years with no major spills until I got this bike a year ago and since then I've crashed it twice and had a bird strike. Each time knackering the RH fairing panels!
So what do I do now? I guess that if the bike is repeaired the decision's made, but if not, what? Another 955 SprintST (can't afford a 1050)? Something older and slower until I build up a decent NCD again? Or something else? Don't know yet, but I'm sure it'll become clear soon.
In the meantime, enjoy your riding and be careful out there!
Nigel.

Hi Nigel,
I think you need to stay away from right hand turns  Really, sorry to hear this but glad you are OK. Heck, if it's repairable get back on your horsey and ride.
If not get something you enjoy and can afford.
We all have heart stoppers every once in awhile especially if you push yourself. Do what you do best and enjoy.

Having had two recent spills (and large costs), I really sympathize with your plight. Here's hoping the bike isn't a total write off. You'd be surprised how strong a hit these bikes can take.
Funny you mentioned "unlucky". I had the same feeling about my bike. Then reason prevailed and I'm loving it now.
Best of luck.

I dislike the saying "there are only two types of bikers, ones who have crashed, and those who haven't yet crashed". The older I get, the more this seems to be the case.
I've had a spill this spring, so I am pre-disaster'ed for the rest of the year.....
Isn't the element of danger one reason we all ride?

There couldn't be a better time to buy a 'New' Daytona 955! That's what I would do.
I recently sat on the new 675 and for me, you can keep it, it's gorgeous yes, but the seat is a plank and it leans you to much 'on your face' if you will for me. If you're planning 'any' real seat time on a bike I can't see this bike being a good choice.
The 955i however are still IMHO the best SPORT/touring bike out there. And the prices are great for what's left in the pipeline. Here is a recent thread on prices in your part of the world.......

Yes there are certainly some deals to be done on the 955 'tona - worth looking at if the Sprint is totalled.
Here's a picture of the sorry mess btw:

fatboy686, sorry to here of your accident. Did you ride that thing home? A ridding buddy of mine had a Daytona and dropped it about 5 times before he gave up. Man, we put a number of parts and fairings and other bits on that thing before he finally totaled it. As long as nothing was bent he was good to go! Good luck.

just an idea here Nigel........ if they write yours off, that 955 motor would be nice to try and fit into a Thunderbird...with the benefit of no fairings to ever replace and a bike you would go a bit easier on, but with tons more pulling power. And throw some crash bars on!
Personally, I've always liked the idea of a T'Bird Sports with 120 bhp
Triumphs DO crash well according to an article from one of our Aussie mags, but they write them off because of the cost of repairs viz-a-viz the insured value. So it could be perfectly road safe and undamaged chassis/engine wise but with lots to spend on ancilliary stuff that costs the earth and they'll write it off......that's a good one to buy back from them.

Hey fatboy686, I'm not superstitious either, but I was amazed by your post, I was hit by a cockatoo 12 months ago, punched a 6 inch hole in the centre & front right side fairing.
Then on Wednesday arvo I had my first crash for over 20 years, on a tight right hand kink the back end spun up & let go, grinding
all of the right side big time.I took a sky-road, sky-road, sky-road, tumble and broke my right wrist. This made it a tad difficult to pick the bike back up and ride home 20 km through the twisties with no front brake lever.
Then I see your photo - same color sprint, but a bit more damage.
I'd like to ask you to not have any more crashes as there is obviously some flow on effect to my sprint over here
Good luck with your repairs I'd check out a 955 Daytona too if mine was a write off

Hey troutman - what a coincidence - I'll go easy from now on! Hope your wrist heals soon.
The bike wasn't ridable (bent and leaking radiator, broken front brake master cylinder, both foot controls missing - oh, plus it wouldn't start!)
I didn't mention that after it had slid along the road on its RH side for a while after low siding me, it hit a kerb, flipped over and ended up, upside down, facing the wrong way, leaning against a fence in a ditch! So there's a lot of damage that you can't see on the other side.
Ah well - let's hope they write it off and I can start again - maybe a scooter?
Nigel.
