I am going to utilize Oxford over-grip heated grips instead of the other permanent grips. The question of the day is the accessory plugs for heated grips and GPS are they switched power? Do they shut off when the key is off? I want to utilize these wires if possible but I also want to be able to have them shut off when the bike is off. This prevents my battery from accidentally going dead because I was a little frozen when getting off the bike.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Things I have done, I did look in the manual and triumph service manual, nice wiring diagrams but no word on being switched or not.
My OEM grips are switched with the bike power, so when the key is off there is no power to the heated grips, even if the toggle switch is on. Wouldn't hurt to give it a quick test though before you put it all back together.
The heated grips supply socket isn't switched - when you buy the Triumph grips they come with a relay which plugs into the socket to provide the switching function. The socket has an ignition switched wire and a permanently live wire plus earth. The ignition switched wire energises the relay which then connects the permanently live wire to the grips. I assume that the ignition switched wire isn't rated for the grips power.
That is not great news. I might have to find another source of power for my grip add ons then. I will be testing the wires with the bike on and off before installing so not a big deal, I was just hoping someone on here had a good Idea on if they were switched.
You might also try contacting Link at 2wheelinnovations. He used aftermarket heated grips on his 05 ST and could tell you how and where he hooked in to.
Good luck.
