So this morning was a nice sunny day to ride to work. I was running a little late and didn't want to stop for gas unless I had to. It's only a 14 mile ride.

My "miles to empty" reading said 17 miles. I figured it probably reads low for good measure, and was tempted to chance it, but decided I didn't want to run out of gas on the highway 5 miles from the nearest station.

Anybody have experience with how accurate this reading is?

Thanks,
Jack

Jack,

to check how accurate it is try riding with the 'miles to empty' display showing.

It is constantly changing depending on how much throttle you are using, going up hill/down hill, etc.

The problem is that the computer has a very difficult calculation to do - it knows how much petrol you have left but is trying to work out how economically you are going to ride until it is all gone. All it can do is monitor the rate of fuel useage, which is constantly changing depending on how you are riding.

I'd say with a 14 mile ride and '17 miles to go' you had better ride very quietly.

I've never had mine down to less than about 50km - 30miles.

Grant

I have had mine read --- no, not a typo. It just read ---. I rode to the gas station (I was already on the way) and filled up with 5.127 gallons. I'd say the thing is damned accurate if you are steady on the throttle for a while.

SR1 -- Your fillup was 5.1 gallons and it is a 5.??? tank (I forget at the moment). The mileage computer averages the fuel consumption over a period of time, right? Anyone know how long that is? (e.g. 30 seconds, a minute, etc.)?

I believe the tank will hold 5.5 gallons.

I have never never put more than 4.8.

That was all I could stand. That yellow light was killing my ride.

I must say, I only use the extra features when I'm on a long trip. The day to day trips I dont bother to look. I use the second trip meter to watch the mileage on the current tank. The first meter I use for service.

Of course I use top speed for BS purposes.

I think it is a 5.2 gallon tank. I had less than .1 gallons left, according to that. LMAO

I put in 5.3 gallons with 8 miles to go on the indicator, so I know that at least my tank is bigger than 5.2 gallons.
