My bike has an annoying off idle flat spot (lean??) when its warmed up which makes it necessary to rev the engine too high and slip the clutch to get past it. When its cold it pulls just fine.

Anybody else loaded a new map that didn't kill the gas mileage and improved drivability?

I'm due for a FI sync so while its in the shop I may as well see if I can fix it.

I'm working on the valve adjustment this weekend as I'm too cheap to pay the shop for the whole 12k mile check but the FI stuff is over my head.

Thanks,

Matt

Milo,

Yeah I had the new map put in 2 months ago and the changes are noticable. Morning startup is a little quicker, and roll-on acceration at hwy. speeds is more responsive. If ya can get it I highly recommend.

So, if you understand it could you 'splain it to me??? can an old Dell 'Orto carb guy learn the voodoo? Is it as simple as hooking up the vacuum guage and doing sync or is there more adjustability than that?

If I get time (two kids with soccer games and a lawn to work on) this weekend I'm doing the valves, I'm available for a blow-by-blow report to hold up my end of the "lack of knowledge" burden.

It'd be great if I didn't even need to entrust my bike to a underpaid teenager with a set of worn out screwdrivers and a Crescent wrench.

Thanks guys,

Matt

I had to learn fuel injection during a divorce 20 years ago..couldn't afford the dealer so had to learn it and do it myself. You have to have the factory manual or haynes but throttle balancing is relatively straight forward even useing analogue diagnostics. The analyer is attached to the "idle air control ports" next to the tthrottle bodies (tank and airbox are removed and you must have a way of remotely getting gas from the detached tank to the injectors, Triumph has a kit available) connect the analyer, start the motor, run at 1200 RPM, note readings on analysizer, adjust number 2 and number 3 throttle, relative to number 1. It always stays the same, only 2 and three are adjustable. It is a very simple vacum adjustment and all yoou are doing is synchronizing the opening and closing action of 2 and three useing 1 as the constant.

Hey Dollar,

EMFBI, but just a quick question about manuals.
I've got an 02 ST and it will be out of warranty in about 2 months and since I have to travel 150 mi. one-way to a dealer (and I don't trust them), I'm looking for a manual.

Is the factory one really worth the $$ and would it help a less than technical nimrod like me? I haven't seen them yet for the 02's but would a Haynes or Clymer
be sufficient for the type of things I'm likely to attempt (maint. upkeep and minor repairs)?

Again, sorry for the interuption.
Thanks,

Paul
