ok so I am going to have the "off road map" put on my bike this week. Now my question is this, would they use a different map for my pipe than they would for my pipe and K&N airfilter? What I am getting at, do I need to wait till I get the airfilter in before remapping it or can I get it done beforehand?

Hi Skrap,

On my '04 model the mech reckoned there was no advantage in fitting a different air filter.

Earlier models I know had a smaller airbox so if the K&N breathes more freely for yours it may be worth doing.

In reading posts about maps and cans I haven't come across any rec'ns that a new filter must have a new map. New can, yes.

Wot Ern said,
I was told the same. The K & N won't make any difference. If you have an off road can you will get an off road tune, what filter you use won't affect the tune.

When you get a new tune, have them set the CO too. It makes a difference in how the motor runs.

I recall seeing posts on another forum explaining how to cut open the airbox lid to reduce intake restriction, and doing that would likely require some specific re-mapping. Personally, I suspect people do it mostly for the louder intake howl. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

To me the advantage of the K&N is that you can clean and reuse it. Replacing the stock filter is kinda pricey. I think there is a foam reuseable somewhere, it's just easier for my little mind to track down a K&N. I'm pretty sure there is evidence that the filter does flow better but then again there is evidence it flows dirt better too. If you believe the increased flow business, don't get ready to stand on the podium yet, because even with the appropriate adjustments (if there are any) the amount of power increase isn't all that much.
