Many, many thanks to all who offered suggestions to this mechanically challenged '02 Sprint ST owner.
Rode the bike - "Miss Emily D" is her name - over to my long-time riding buddy's garage in Jax, FL, armed with printouts of the numerous responses from board members.
When I started out from Tallahassee it was about 45 degrees and the bike ran well. By the time I covered the 160 miles to Jax I wasn't sure me and Miss Emily were going to make it. I was happy just to hear it run on two cylinders.
Following the advice rendered I bought a nice NAPA Gold fuel filter for $3.99 and three new NGK plugs. My bike still has the plastic fittings but my friend has the steady hands of a one time cable splicer and wasn't intimidated.
Both outside plugs were crusty and white with crud at the top of the threads. Oddly, the electrodes showed a lovely light tan color with absolutely none of the soot I expected given the misfire and the long time soot collection in the muffler tips. Still don't understand that. Ever since I had the Triumph off-road can and remap done it has consistently blackened the pipe and caused comments from those riding behind me about being able to smell the fumes from 100 feet away.
Tried to get a remap at West Side Cycles (Triumph/Ducati dealer in Jax) but that's another story and one you might want to read in another thread I'm posting.
Again, many thanks. I love this bike and it looks like I'm going to have to learn to service it. Nice to know help is a few keystrokes away.
