I pulled my Sprint out of the freezing cold garage yesterday to give it a run and listen to that cool motor.

I noticed for the first time that the Silencer is leaking up where the Carbon Fiber meets the chrome forward end cap.

I imagine that dissassembly and high temp silicone would fix this.

Any ideas out there? :hammer:

If it's OEM, they can leak and are replaced under warranty.

Do a search on DaveM's posts.

Search my posts too It's a manufacturing fault that's been happening forever, I'm on my 4th Triumph CF can and I think DaveM got 5 in total before getting the Triumph Stainless can? I'll be moving to a Staintune next service.

incorrigiblem & sheol,
no it was Zore who got 4 or 5 CF cans.
I just replaced mine or rather Mr Bloor did FOC for a stainless race can at the first hint of the leak.

Some folks with the CF can have had no problem. But Triumph are very well aware that there was a manufacturing / design flaw in the CF can which they do not appear to have been able to solve.

If you approach your local dealer and nicely ask him to talk to the good Triumph people they should just replace it for you. I was offered the SS can. I would not get another CF one as it may very well have the same problem you started with.

I was shown a SS can in the box and was shown one and heard it on another ST by the dealer first. They replaced mine in a few minutes while I waited.

I think the SS can is great, it is unfortunately heavier of course and it is not carbon. But it is very bling bling shiny and has a dogs bollocks Triumph badge on it.

Goes great and sounds great. I am still a happy Triumph customer and my dealer was very helpful.

Good luck,
Davem

Dave,

I looked at your images and the SS can does look pretty good. The CF looks better, but function must trump form.

I hope they take care of it. I bought the bike second hand, so that may come into it.

I must be one of the lucky ones with a "non leaking CF can". I like the fact that it doesn't get red hot and would be sorry to have to change (even though the SS one looks pretty good)

I think I'll go home and speak nicely to mine for behaving so well !!

Yea, mine doesn't appear to leak either, I just hope it stays that way. If it does though, I'll probably get an aftermarket CF can instead of the trump SS can. For some reason I really like the looks of the CF over the SS, and it's nice that it's lighter too, the bike is heavy enough as it is already without adding more weight to it :-)
