Bikes these days are tecgnological wonders. Most modern bikes are capable of very high speed and great handling at the same time. The bikes I currently have are proof and have never caused me to be suspect about the saftey or capability of the machine. Its is always my ability and/or uncertain road conditions that scare the ***** out of me. Going fast is awesome till a deer or racoon steps in you way. Ooohhhhhh that gives me the chills. Also, has anyone ever been caught by radar at these high speeds? Thats the other thing that keeps me under xxx. I'm not a big fan of handcuffs and watching someone take my bike away.

yep, I have to tell you I just ran it up to 140 on a long back road near the house. The bike rides great. I just ordered the power-commander and I'm waiting on it to arrive. Ride it like you stole it!

Things move a little more quickly at "the ton," don't they? I participated in the Steamboat Springs RAT event last summer and had a chance to participate in a spirited ride on the clear roads of Colorado.
I still have a grand of revs left! I just purchased a Tuneboy and look forward to loading in a better map.

It's a rush.
I have a favorite loop I do my hyper- touring on. It's about 400 miles from my garage and back and goes through the Cascade Mtns.
One part on Hwy. 138 which goes past Crater Lake is straight as a string for about 20 miles and you can see forever. I did it once on the old BT57's.
Went around a Good Sammer, hit 6th. and banged the limiter backed off, mine hits at 10,500 and held it at 10,300. Funny thing though. Above 135 the back end started swaying. I thought it was the airflow around my elephant arse Givi's doing it. Probably was.
Got to where I had to back off and things quieted down again.
Got to to the town of Glide to stop and get a cold drink and noticed the rear tire was to the wear bars and looking pretty ragged in spots. OOPS.
Got back home and the next day I got the Z6's put on and scuffed those in. Day after I went back and did it again. This time she went straight as an arrow with no fuss. I did notice a funny thing though. On the speed run flats there was a single black undulating tire line about 4.5 miles long. Not very dark but discernible on the pavement.
Me so stupid at times.

Don,
Interesting to hear about your single black line. I guess when applying 100+ HP to the rear tire patch, pushing against air resistance, something's got to give a little. I can imagine the wear bars working their way to the surface!

Dear Blenvid and fellow RATS.
3 years ago after (the day after) the Australian round of the SBK (World supers..) I had an opportunity to do a track day at the Phillip Island race track.
It is easy to see why many GP and SBK riders rate the track as a favourite.
It is a fast track (faster than the Eastern creek track in Sydney) and after a few laps of familiarisation, my confidence grew dramatically. Not sure why, but PI reminds me of Donnington (never actually been there, but it looks fats, too).
One of the cool things about Phillips Island is that you enter the main straight in 6th gear still accelarating. in the last of my laps I was entering the straight using all of the track (edge to edge) and the Sprint was actually sliding sideways. Not a lot, but enough to create "seat suction" for the rider.
What's my point?
The helmet turbulence is massive, but I still managed to see the clock read 230 Kph (124.9 Mph) at the end of the straight. it's a bog standard Sprint ST (2000 model).
The local riders usually passed me (on R1s, GSXRs etc..) at the end of the straight - but only because the end of the straight is really quite "blind" as you rise over a bit of a hump and they obviously knew the track better than I did (they had their local state plates on). I reckon with a bit more practice I could have crept up to 240 Klms!!
Either way. it was flipping brilliant and loads of fun.
Sports bikes??
Who needs 'em??

Good story. But about this part: "I was at 80mph when I shifted into 6th, my top gear."
If you really want to let your Sprint run free, you should be hitting 90 in 2nd, 120 in 3rd, and on up from there. Might as well take it up to redline for the full effect!
Cheers,
Jack

Got on a fine and clear stretch of back road in my state and had the old '04 out to 220kph (indicated) before running out of straight.
Dead solid, despite the Givi topbox on the back.
No cows, no kangaroos and thankfully no boys in blue.
